    AFC Fylde 0-0 Wigan

Dan Burn, the giant Wigan defender who is back from suspension, sends a long ball over the top from his own half and it reaches Will Grigg.

The Northern Ireland international, the one who is sometimes on fire, tries to weave some magic but is held up by Zaine Francis-Angol.

AFC Fylde v Wigan Athletic (19:55 GMT)

How unlucky is this? AFC Fylde forward Jack Muldoon should have been playing tonight, but he's suspended. Nothing unfortunate about that, you may think, but he was due to serve the last of his three match ban in a game against Guiseley but that was called off three minutes before kick off due to a waterlogged pitch.

"It was very tight," Muldoon told BBC Sport. "I had the pitchfork in my hand, doing everything I could but I made my own bed so I lie in it."

Wigan boss Paul Cook on BBC Two: "It's about the future for us now. We've got a very tricky tie tonight and we're going well in the league.

"It's a great game - it's what it's all about in the FA Cup. You can see the infrastructure so called non-league sides have.

"It's great credit to the Fylde chairman and board. They have a great plan to go forwards."

Congratulations to Fylde striker Danny Rowe who has picked up the National League player of the month award for November.

  13. Non-league dreamspublished at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2017

AFC Fylde v Wigan Athletic (19:55 GMT)

Ten non-league clubs go into this weekend's FA Cup second round and they are all well aware what comes next if they progress into the third-round draw: the big boys.

Among the stories to look out for are the younger brother of an England international looking to set up a dream tie, and a seventh-tier club hoping to emulate their 1970s giant-killing days.

  15. "If you can't get excited about that..."published at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2017

AFC Fylde v Wigan Athletic (19:55 GMT)

Fylde reached the second round of the FA Cup for the first time after a 4-2 win over Kidderminster Harriers (good pies there, FYI).

The hosts go into Friday's match sitting 16th in the National League - the top tier of non-league - and they have just beaten high-flying Dover.

Boss Dave Challinor, who was apparently a long-throw expert for Tranmere back in the day, said: "We have got to make it seem as normal as possible - this is a big opportunity for many of my players to prove they can play in the Football League.

"Whether you're down at non-league level or up at the very top, ultimately it is all about playing in big games in front of big crowds and TV, and if you can't get excited about that then nothing will ever motivate you.

"It's great to have a nationwide audience, and this is the one competition in which we have the opportunity as a group to test ourselves against Football League players, so we have to go out and take it head-on."

  18. Wigan on the rise again?published at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2017

AFC Fylde v Wigan Athletic (19:55 GMT)

Wigan were in FA Cup dream land in 2013.

Substitute Ben Watson's last-minute goal at Wembley earned them victory over Manchester City, and with it their first piece of major silverware in their 81-year history.

Let's just say it's not been a bed of roses since then. They've suffered three relegation in four years, and now reside in League One. They've also gone through seven managers.

But they're flying under boss Paul Cook. They're top of the third tier by two points, having won 13 of their 19 games so far.

AFC Fylde's home ground looked glorious as the sunset over Lancashire this evening.

    Although it's got a 3G pitch, it's a bit different to your normal non-league ground given it's a state-of-the-art 6,000 seater stadium in a multi-million pound sports village.

It's also called Mill Farm and any ground which sounds like a country spa retreat is fine with me.

Anyway, we want to know what your favourite lower league/non-league grounds are and why? Have you been on any cracking away days in the early rounds of the FA Cup?

  20. The story of AFC Fyldepublished at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2017

AFC Fylde v Wigan Athletic (19:55 GMT)

As usual with lower league sides, there's a good story to be told about AFC Fylde.

In 2007, local businessman David Haythornthwaite drew up a 15-year plan to get Kirkham and Wesham, as they were known then, into the Football League by 2022.

Five promotions, a name change and one multi-million-pound ground later, AFC Fylde are well on track to reach their promised land.
