  1. CLOSE!published at 16 mins

    Italy 0-0 Sweden (Agg 0-1)

That's the first we've seen from Jorginho, the Brazilian-born Napoli midfielder making his competitive debut. Great pass too, through the lines and he finds Ciro Immobile inside the area, into the side-netting though.

I reckon both sides could have had a pen already. Matteo Darmian was the lucky man that time, a ball popped up onto his hand in the area.

  3. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 13 mins

    Italy 0-0 Sweden (Agg 0-1)

Ola Toivonen broke Leo Bonucci's nose in the first leg and the Italians haven't forgotten as team-mate Giorgio Chiellini lands an arm on the forward!

And now Sweden have a good shout for a penalty! Is that handball?!

    No says the ref...

    Italy 0-0 Sweden (Agg 0-1)

Italy win a corner, the San Siro a cauldron of expectation and frustration already. Well defended by Sweden.

At the other end Gigi Buffon takes a chance with a backpass but gets away with it.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 10 mins

    Italy 0-0 Sweden (Agg 0-1)

The first leg was a bit of a dogfight and we've started in similar fashion. Giorgio Chiellini was booked for his protestations about that penalty shout and Jakob Johansson is now booked for leaving a foot in in midfield.

  6. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 9 mins

    Italy 0-0 Sweden (Agg 0-1)

Andrea Barzagli wins the ball back well and drives Italy forwards, the ball ricochets into the area and there's a risky challenge from the wrong side on Marco Parolo by Ludwig Augustinsson! Dearie me that was rash. He's got away with one there!

    Italy 0-0 Sweden (Agg 0-1)

First shot on goal is a very tricky one for Alessandro Florenzi, volleying a very high cross wide from 20 yards. Never got hold of it.

  8. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Italy 0-0 Sweden (Agg 0-1)

The only scoreline that will take us to extra time or penalties is a 1-0 win for Italy. It's a scrappy start, the referee getting stuck in already and the home fans whistling loudly with discontent.

Peter Linsell: The Italians will get through on pens. If they do then it would be typical for them to go on and win it in Russia. You heard it here first!

  10. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Italy 0-0 Sweden (Agg 0-1)

The first leg was pretty brutal at times, with Marcus Berg putting himself about up front. The first challenge comes at the other end with Ciro Immobile leaving former Wigan defender Andreas Granqvist on the deck.

    Italy 0-0 Sweden (Agg 0-1)

Sweden lining up in a good old fashioned 4-4-2, with Italy in a classic back three. An early Sweden goal would make things very interesting indeed.

    Away we go!

That's a solid 10/10 for Italy's players during Il Canto degli Italiani.

    Standard.

Alex Pagels: I have to admit that, bar Buffon, this is surely the most unattractive Italian team I have ever seen. I would only miss Buffon and their national anthem

Roberto Colombi: love Italy to death but the fact that a 40 year old is still playing and first choice shows the lack of young talent coming through! If Italy win will just be papering over the cracks I fear but Forza Azzuri!!!

If Italy don't qualify can we at least have Gigi Buffon doing the anthem anyway?

    Fantastic.

Here come the sides - as loud a San Siro as you've heard in years. The fans make an Italian flag in the stands and boo the Sweden anthem very, very loudly. Gigi Buffon claps all the way through it, like a man possessed!

    Surely nobody hates Sweden?

Leonardo Bonucci had his nose broken in the first minute of the first leg so he's been down to the Ducati garage and got himself a carbon fibre face mask.

    Agreed James, and James.

The first leg was surprisingly open and entertaining, and Sweden could have had more. How will they approach this one?

James Roche: All this focus on Italy......the Mrs is from Sweden, so will be cheering on them tonight. Time to break some Italian hearts!

James Lynch: Tonight isn't just about Italy - Sweden aren't getting enough credit. Have beaten some top teams like France and Italy over the past year, have some very good individuals like Forsberg, and I would back them for Russia, they've improved significantly since Euro 2016
