The spark that Gary Rowett is looking for may well come from striker David Nugent, who has a remarkable record against Ipswich, scoring 13 goals in his past 13 league starts against the Suffolk club for Preston, Portsmouth, Leicester, Middlesbrough and Derby.

The good news for the Tractor Boys, at least, is that he's been left on the bench today.

After an inconsistent start to the season which saw them win only three of their first 10 games, Derby County have since come on strong and are now within striking distance of the top two.

The Rams have won four of their past five games - although the goalless draw against Hull on Boxing Day checked their progress just a touch - and today visit Ipswich Town.

"We're not too bothered about what our opponents do," manager Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Derby. "We'll be mindful of it, but it's really about how we play the game.

"What we've got to do is make sure we have a little bit more spark, particularly on the ball, and we'll be fine."

Preston's victory at Cardiff means Bristol City remain in second position, although that could yet change before their game against Wolves kicks off at 17:30 GMT if Derby win at Ipswich this afternoon.

Leeds, like the Rams, are also bang in form at the moment and will hope to close the gap to the automatic promotion places, while Sheffield United are just one point above North End in seventh.
