  1. Final whistlepublished at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

That's all for now after Crusaders end Coleraine's long reign at the top of the Premiership standings. Ballinamallard battled hard but the visitor's superior quality shone through in the second half and we witnessed New Year crackers from Jordan Forsythe and Billy Joe Burns.

Stephen Baxter's side are now on course for a third title in four years as their brilliant form continues, with the Ferney victory making it 12 wins and a draw in the last 13 league matches. The Mallards have just one three-pointer in the campaign but their attitude could not be faulted and there's a long way to go in both the relegtion and title races.

Thanks for joining us and we'll be back on Tuesday evening for three Premiership games. Ards host Glenavon, Ballymena visit Cliftonville and Glentoran take on Warrenpoint Town at the Oval.

    Quote Message

Crusaders showed more urgency in the second half but Ballinamallard were well in the game until Jordan Forsythe's opener. It came from nothing and you just didn't expect it to happen. It required such accuracy and skill and it needed that piece of brilliance to open up Ballinamallard. Despite the dreadful conditions it was a great advert for Irish League football and it was a deserved win for Crusaders.

  4. Being top means nothing now - Forsythepublished at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

The goal was a bit of a blur but I'm delighted to get. It was hard for us in the first half and Richard Brush made a couple of good goals. We just needed the goal in order to push on - it's always hard here, tough to get the three points. We're top of the league now but we will not get carried away as it means nothing at this stage.

  13. goal

GOALpublished at 16:33 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Ballinamallard Utd 0-2 Crusaders

An own-goal doubles the lead for Crusaders with the unfortunate Matthew Smyth diverting Paul Heatley's cross into the Mallards net. Heatley fizzed the ball across goal, leaving Smyth with little time to react and he can only send his clearance into the roof of the net. The goal was coming and the Crues look good for the three points and a move to the top of the Premiership standings.

  14. CLOSE!published at 16:30 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

Paul Heatley is put clear on the left and his low shot comes off the inside of Richard Brush's leg to divert the ball just wide. The hosts have yet to create a decent chance at the other end in the second half and time is running out.

    Quote Message

We've talked about Ballinamallard being strong and compact and hitting Crusaders on the break, but they have to go for the equaliser and that leaves them vulnerable. They have to watch out now for the pace of Whyte and Heatley.

  19. goal

GOALpublished at 16:12 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Ballinamallard Utd 0-1 Crusaders

What a belter from Jordan Forsythe - a looping 25-yard volley beats Richard Brush and the Crues go in front. The midfielder strikes the ball off the inside of the post and into the net. It was going to take something special to beat Brush and the keeper had no chance. However, Brush did make a good save from Paul Healtley's strike to ensure the lead was not doubled. As it stands the Crues are going top!
