  2. Mallards must improve on set-pieces - Jeffreypublished at 15:53 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Ballinamallard Utd 0-0 Crusaders

    Quote Message

Gavin Dykes will be delighted with his Ballinamallard side. At the start it was like attack versus defence but Ballinamallard have stayed in there and he'll want his team to continue to close the space on the Crues and defend the same way. However, he'll also want his team to improve on their set-pieces because they have been wasteful so far.

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Ballinamallard Utd 0-0 Crusaders

Crusaders on top but they're struggling to break down a resilient Mallards side. All to play for in the second half.

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:47 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Ballinamallard Utd 0-0 Crusaders

Mallards keeper Richard Brush has shone this season despite poor results and he is showing why he is one of the best stoppers in the league. Billy Joe Burns scored a long-range cracker against Linfield on Saturday and he goes for a repeat, only from Brush to make the block and then save Paul Heatley's effort on the rebound. Heatley is denied by Brush again after cutting inside and unleashing a powerful shot.

  6. Leddy bookedpublished at 15:40 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Ballinamallard Utd 0-0 Crusaders

Mallards midfielder Jonathan Leddy is booked after an off-the-ball incident with Paul Heatley. The Crues winger is left on his knees and referee Keith Kennedy halts play to book Leddy. The chances have dried up and the hosts will hope to see out the last five minutes of the half without conceding.

  8. Heatley misses outpublished at 15:27 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Ballinamallard Utd 0-0 Crusaders

As soon as I praise the Mallards defence they go away and let Paul Healtley through on goal but the Crues winger drags his shot wide. An exciting few minutes also sees Ciaran Martyn hitting the Crusaders net, only for the striker to be rules offside, before Gavin Whyte brings out a fine save from Richard Brush at the other end. It's warming up at Ferney!

  9. Mallards making it tough for Cruespublished at 15:23 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Ballinamallard Utd 0-0 Crusaders

The hosts have been solid in defence so far - Gavin Whyte sends a cross to the backpost and Crues striker Jordan Owens sees his header blocked and cleared. Mallards keeper Richard Brush has yet to make a save.

  10. Crues seize controlpublished at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Ballinamallard Utd 0-0 Crusaders

    Quote Message

Crusaders are beginning to turn the screw. They play with such fluidity and with a flexible formation. Ballinamallard are getting men behind the ball and they will look to hit the Crues on the counter-attack.

  11. CLOSE!published at 15:13 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Ballinamallard Utd 0-0 Crusaders

Gavin Whyte has scored five goals in his last four games and the Crues winger nearly added to that impressive tally. Picking the ball up 30 yards out, he looks up and whistles it just wide of the Mallards woodwork.

  12. Frantic startpublished at 15:07 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Ballinamallard Utd 0-0 Crusaders

It's all a bit helter skelter in the opening few minutes on a heavy, but definitely playable, Ferney Park pitch. The Crues are donning their grey strip and let's hope the colour is not used as an excuse, as it was by a certain Scottish manager a few years back, if things don't go to plan for the visitors.

  15. Raining goals?published at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

The pitch at Ferney Park has survived the weather and we could have plenty of goals in store this afternoon.

The sides have scored eight goals in their two meetings this season, with Crusaders thrashing the Mallards 5-1 in September and Stephen Baxter's men securing a 2-0 win at Seaview the following month.

Crusaders winger Gavin Whyte's winner against Linfield was his 14th league goal of the season, the highest tally in the Irish Premiership.

Ballinamallard have only scored 15 as a team all season.

Mallards boss Gavin Dykes brings Stuart Hutchinson, Ciaran Martyn and Blaine Burns into his team after Friday's draw at Carrick. Crues manager Stephen Baxter goes with two changes - Philip Lowry and Matthew Snoddy come in for Sean Ward and Declan Caddell.
