Keep an eye out on Jack Cork and Paul Pogba.

The pair exchanged verbals after Burnley were given a free-kick just then and were still chuntering away when United were awarded one a few moments later.

Not been a nasty game this one but doubt either of them will pull out if there is a 50-50 duel at some point.

  2. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 60 mins

    Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

The hosts are asking the question, but Mike Dean is not giving the penalty.

A header hits Chris Smalling's arm, which is straight by his side, in the Manchester United box.

The crowd squeal, but nothing doing.

What a curious goal that was.

Romelu Lukaku got involved in a test of strength inside the Burnley half.

He won it and then when the ball rolled on, he found Anthony Martial with a lovely pass.

What was odd was that, after being so solid defensively all afternoon, Burnley failed to pick Martial up and the Frenchman took advantage of the space to take his time and finish.

Sean Dyche will wonder what happened there I think.

  4. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 57 mins

    Burnley 0-1 Man Utd

Burnley within a bar's width of a leveller.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson curls a superb free-kick over the top of a sky-scraping wall containing the likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic.

There is also plenty of dip on it too though.

It thuds off the top of the bar and over with David de Gea struggling to get there.

    Anthony Martial

Finally some of Manchester United's individual quality bubbles to the surface.

Romelu Lukaku comes to life, bulldozing his way onto a loose ball, before getting his head up to switch play to the opposite edge of the penalty area.

Anthony Martial controls, stands up his man and whips a curling shot in off the underside of the bar from 15 yards.

    Good goal.

Burnley clear the set-piece with ease.

This Manchester United is gagging for some of what Alexis Sanchez will bring with him.

They are pretty much static in attack, with Romelu Lukaku not offering any movement for his midfielders to pick out.

Jesse Lingard on a mazy, meandering run towards the edge of the Burnley penalty area.

The Manchester United man looks ready to pull back his left peg, when James Tarkowski steps in and steals the ball off his toe.

    A classy intervention.

Just had a marvellous rendition of Nessun Dorma on the pitch at Turf Moor, which was done as part of a documentary about Italia '90.

Sadly, I am old enough to remember it very clearly.

And, whilst there may have been some poor games, nothing about the match I have been watching this afternoon will live as long in the memory as that extravaganza.

Ashley Barnes is battling well for Burnley. They're getting it into his feet and looking for runners to play off him. He's keeping Jones and Smalling occupied and giving them plenty to think about.

Manchester United have not been hammering on the door particularly hard.

They have had 57% of possession and a fat zero shots on target.

Burnley have twice made David de Gea work by contrast.

Jose Mourinho should be firing up the half-time rocket and getting Marcus Rashford ready. And tell his side to channel play down the left where Ashley Young and Anthony Martial have been decent.

Manchester United have got into promising positions around the Burnley penalty area often enough today but Nick Pope is yet to make a meaningful save.

Paul Pogba and Ashley Young were off target with United's best sightings of goal.

It is easy to see how, with the guile of Alexis Sanchez, they might turn more of that promising possession into threats on goal.

Sean Dyche has never been one to get too down about results. He will have been telling his players to keep doing what they're good at. People in this Burnley team know their jobs and do them expertly. They're really hard-working, organised and disciplined and his positivity will keep driving them forward.

That was delicious from Ashley Young - real Aston Villa-era trickery.

Now playing left-back for Manchester United, he stands up Johan Gudmundsson and slips by him with ease by the touchline.

Darting into the area, he sets a curling shot out towards the far post....not quite enough bite.

The ball drifts just just wide of the woodwork with Nick Pope beaten in the Clarets' goal.

Manchester United have not quite found their cutting edge yet. They're probing but Burnley's back four have been compact and disciplined. It's going to be tough for United to break them down.
