    Burnley 0-0 Man Utd

Anthony Martial looks like Manchester United's likeliest source of a breakthrough. He is looking nimble and lively.

Paul Pogba sets his sights from 30 yards after his compatriot's lay-off, but his low, skidding effort is well blocked by a lunging James Tarkowski.

Tarkowski is having his usual quietly effective afternoon.

Anthony Martial gets a run at Burnley right-back Phil Bardsley, who is immediately calling for back-up from his defensive colleagues.

It arrives in the nick of time, blocking the United attacker's shot as he drops a shoulder and snaps a shot.

    Dion Dublin
Ex-Aston Villa striker on Final Score

I expected Man United to come out flying, all guns blazing, and they did exactly that. They were fantastic for the first five to 10 minutes but there's been no goals and Burnley have put the fires out.

Burnley are in this game, Man Utd are trying to break them down but Burnley are standing strong at the moment.

    Burnley 0-0 Man Utd

Manchester United are looking flat in attack, slowing up and turning down cul-de-sacs in the final third.

They need something to pep them up. And Alexis is going to be too late for this afternoon.

Ben Mee is the first name into Mike Dean's little black book.

The Burnley defender left one on Jesse Lingard, clattering through the Manchester United man as he was flummoxed by a neat first touch.

No clear chances for either side so far on what has turned into a lovely sunny day at Turf Moor.

Hard to believe I drove through heavy rain, sleet and a bit of snow to get here.

  8. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 29 mins

    Burnley 0-0 Man Utd

Paul Pogba is beseeching Mike Dean to point to the spot.

He can beseech all day, he is not getting a penalty there.

Phil Bardsley had an arm draped over the Manchester United midfielder's shoulder, but it was subtle enough and early enough to make it a brave call to give a penalty.

That was about the same sport from which Robbie Blake thumped in the rocket that won the 2009 game between these two sides at Turf Moor.

Jeff Hendrick can't match his predecessor though, swiping a half-volley over the top.

David de Gea waves it on its way into the stand behind his goal.

He has been told over the tannoy to report to the nearest steward.

Little glimpses at both ends, but no real openings.

Paul Pogba duffs a pass straight through to Nick Pope with plenty of movement and options in front of him for United.

Shortly after Scott Arfield sees a cross block after getting goal side of Phil Jones in the United penalty box.

Anthony Martial on the run, all swagger, swerve and spurts of pace, causes Burnley some problems down the left.

Enter James Tarkowski with a Berlin Wall of a block tackle. Solid.

    Burnley 0-0 Man Utd

A slick and speedy counter-attack from Burnley down the right ends with Johann Berg Gudmundsson jagging in and firing straight at David de Gea as he comes under pressure from the defence.

The Clarets are giving as good as they are getting. At least as good.

    Burnley 0-0 Man Utd

The first effort at goal from Manchester United is well over the top, but there was some nice movement leading up to it.

Ashley Young's dinked ball over the top is well weighted for Paul Pogba's dart into the area, but the Frenchman can only stab off target on the volley and from an acute angle.

With a bit of low sunlight streaming over the stands and Turf Moor, and Manchester United playing in their grey away shirts, the kit manufacturer has not done anything for the visitors' passing game.

    Burnley 0-0 Man Utd

Burnley are finding some space between the lines.

Scott Arfield's neat reverse ball picks out Ashley Barnes, whose shot from 15 yards out is blocked by a lunging defender.

The ball rebounds to Jeff Hendrick, but his long-ranger is a tiddler that David de Gea scoops up with ease.

    Simon Stone

What was supposed to be a minute's silence to remember Burnley fans who died over the past 12 months, in addition to Cyrille Regis, turned into a minute's applause at Turf Moor.

Manchester United fans began singing 'there's only one Cyrille Regis' and many home supporters joined in.

    Burnley 0-0 Man Utd

The first sight of goal from either side and it's wasted really by Burnley's James Tarkowski.

The central defender is up from the back for a set-piece and is well picked out in the penalty area, but his header falls between a serious attempt for the far post and a knock-down into an area for one of his team-mates.

    Burnley 0-0 Man Utd

Nemanja Matic neatly turns away and out of danger as Ashley Barnes attempts to affect a high press for Burnley.

Nicely done. Manchester United move steadily upfield, but Juan Mata's little stubbed cross is easily gathered by Nick Pope in the Clarets goal.

    Ah, excellent.

Phil Jones' first touch is greeted with a chorus of jeers from the home fans. They are not going to forget that he began his career down the road in Blackburn.
