A chant of "One Cyrille Regis" breaks out as the two teams and their respective fans take a minute to remember the former West Brom striker before kick-off.

Paul Pogba is on fire. He is at his best when he is given that freedom to play.

I thought Stoke were pretty poor defensively on Monday, although they created a couple of chances, but you cannot take away the impact Pogba had. It is as plain as day. Everyone plays better when he plays.

Stand by your beds everyone, Mike Dean on the whistle today.

He and Jose have plenty of previous.

Mourinho described his performance in charge of Chelsea's game against Sunderland in 2014 as "unbelievable", and I don't think in a good way.

He added that referee' boss Mike Riley "had organised things with the referees doing well according to their objectives".

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho spoke with uncharacterisitic warmth about Luke Shaw.

At the end of his eulogy about Shaw's recent performances, Mourinho said there were "not many better left-backs in the country than THIS Luke Shaw".

Unfortunately for Shaw, it appears team-mate Ashley Young is one of them. Shaw is on the bench today.

The big pre-match observation is that wireless ear buds are taking over from jumbo over-ear cans as the Premier League players' earphone of choice.

One of those sticking to the old-school way of things is Romelu Lukaku. After goals against Derby and Stoke in his last two outings, he could do with another today.

The Belgian has scored just once in 10 league games against top-half opposition.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "If you look, every single club, other than the top six, have had various spells like we've just had.

"Some, who are struggling a little bit down at the bottom, have had three or four spells.

"That's how difficult the Premier League is. When we had a really good run I said the margins were tight and we were on the right side of them. We want to get back to doing that."

Nick Pope has been great since he came into the team, it's not easy to do that at Premier League level. He has done really well. It's nice to have that stability.

We have a simple formula, the team is solid and built on defending. Basics, it's not rocket science. We are on a tough run but look at the teams we have played. There are no gimmes in the Premier League. We stick to what we are about, there is no panic or worry.

Lots of unsubstantiated rumours about Alexis Sanchez.

So far today I have been told Sanchez is having a medical, that the deals for the Chilean to join Manchester United and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to join Arsenal are done, that Sanchez has flown to Manchester and that nothing has changed from yesterday.

It is going to happen. I think I speak for most reporters covering this story when I say I wish they would hurry up.

Pre-match in the press room is all about the meat & potato pie, the cheese & onion pie and a dollop of mushy peas served with pickled onions, red cabbage and beetroot. Nothing fancy, just simple and substantive for the visit of Manchester United.

Could Pep Guardiola's Manchester City implode like the Keegan-era Magpies?

    Nicolas Otamendi as Darren Peacock?

    Fabian Delph as Lee Clark?

    Gabriel Jesus as Faustino Asprilla?

    I don't think so.

  13. Bring a legend alive?published at 14:35 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2018

Burnley v Man Utd (15:00 GMT)

    Jonathan Pearce
BBC Match of the Day commentator

The first half of Burnley's season was absolutely extraordinary. Their fans must never forget that.

Their current seven-game run winless is largely down to the high intensity shown to mid-December. It would have been impossible to maintain that with a small squad.

If they lose this, it'll be four defeats in a row for the first time since May 2015. There'll be fire in their bellies because it's United and they have a good record against them.

But Jose Mourinho knows a win will bring a legend alive. Exactly 22 years ago, United were 12 points behind leaders Newcastle , externalwith 23 games played but they still won the title. They're now 12 points behind Manchester City after 23 Premier League games. Impossible?

There is also only one change for Manchester United from the team that beat Stoke 3-0 on Monday night as Ashley Young makes his first appearance of 2018 as he replaces Luke Shaw, who is among the substitutes.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, linked with a move to Arsenal, is not included in United's squad.

Man Utd: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Young, Pogba, Matic, Mata, Lingard, Martial, Lukaku. Subs: Rojo, Rashford, Romero, Ander Herrera, Shaw, Fellaini, McTominay.
