  1. 'Sturridge signing a strong signal of intent'published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

Man City v West Brom (20:00 GMT)

    Simon Brotherton
    MOTD commentator at the Etihad

It's not the most promising of fixtures if you've won just one of your last 22 league fixtures, but West Brom head up the M6 in good spirits after their FA Cup exploits at Anfield on Saturday.

Albion are still in the bottom three but have lost only one of the last five, and signing Daniel Sturridge on loan is a strong signal of intent.

A trip to Manchester City remains the toughest of fixtures though. Pep Guardiola's side have only dropped one point at home all season while equalling the best ever record by a team after 24 matches of an English top-flight season.

    Everton 0-0 Leicester

Tonight is Sam Allardyce’s 1000th game in charge of an English league club in all competitions.

    His current record reads P999 W388 D263 L348.

Decent start by Bournemouth as Junior Stanislas gets a low ball into the box. It trickles across the face of goal but no-one's there to connect with it.

  4. 'Spurs need to make a statement'published at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

Tottenham v Manchester United (20:00 BST)

    Steve Wilson
    MOTD commentator at Wembley

Given their success in domestic cup competitions, it's a little surprising that this will be only the second meeting between Spurs and Manchester United at Wembley.

Nine years ago, Ben Foster used his iPod to help Manchester United win a penalty shoot-out against Tottenham in the League Cup final, but that's the only previous encounter at the national stadium.

Spurs may be on an eight-match unbeaten run in all competitions but Manchester United look the more solid of the two just now. Between them, David de Gea and Sergio Romero have kept six successive clean sheets whilst Mourinho's side have rattled off five wins on the spin.

Having dropped points to both West Ham and Southampton recently, Spurs could do with a real statement result - and what would be better than beating Manchester United?

Oh dear Jose Izquierdo - the Colombian scoops over from about eight yards.

What a great chance for the player, and for Brighton to take a super early lead.

  8. Happy to see Giroudpublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Chelsea v Bournemouth (19:45 GMT)

Olivier Giroud has just taken his seat behind the Chelsea dugout. His appearance from the tunnel was met by applause from the home fans.

Not long until four of the seven Premier League games tonight get under way.

  9. 'Huge game'published at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Southampton v Brighton (19:45 GMT)

    John Roder
    MOTD commentator at St Mary's

This match is huge, with out-of-form teams Southampton and Brighton both needing an improvement in their Premier League form to move away from the relegation zone.

Southampton are without a league victory since the end of November, whilst Brighton have won only one league game since they took three points at Swansea in early November.

Glenn Murray's goal at the Liberty Stadium was Brighton's last in an away game, and one of only five they've managed on their travels all season.

Both teams won in the FA Cup on Saturday and will hope that provides the boost they desperately need in their battle for Premier League survival.

  10. Is Benitez running out of patience?published at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Newcastle v Burnley (19:45 GMT)

    Guy Mowbray
MOTD commentator at St James' Park

It's a sad state of affairs when the game itself isn't everyone's main focus, yet at the moment that's the case for Newcastle.

It has to be. Yes, they need a win against Burnley, but in order to keep winning and ensure Premier League survival they also surely need new signings and time is running out - possibly along with Rafa Benitez's patience.

Despite Burnley's current winless run, Sean Dyche's patience is unlikely to have been tested anywhere near as far, having faced a frighteningly tough fixture list over Christmas and new year.

"They now need to come out of the other side sharpish, and this is one they'll see as highly winnable.

  11. 'Everton are a better team'published at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

Everton v Leicester City (19:45 GMT)

    Leicester City

Claude Puel's first game in charge of Leicester back in October was against Everton which ended in a 2-0 victory.

    A repeat tonight?

"It’s not the same Everton team like in my first game with Leicester," says the Frenchman, who has taken 25 points from his 15 league games in charge as well as steered the Foxes to the FA Cup fifth round.

"They were not in good confidence but now they play well with confidence and it will be a tough game.”

  12. Hazard alert for Bournemouthpublished at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Chelsea v Bournemouth (19:45 GMT)

    Mark Scott
    MOTD commentator at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are on an impressive home run in the Premier League, having won seven in a row at Stamford Bridge before the goalless draw with Leicester a couple of weeks ago.

Eden Hazard has been in fine form for them lately - and the Belgian has a good scoring record against Bournemouth as well.

    Image caption,

Eden Hazard has scored five goals in his past four Premier League appearances against Bournemouth

Eddie Howe believes his side will 'take great confidence' from their performance in the narrow League Cup quarter-final defeat at the Bridge last month, while their recent results and extra rest should give the Cherries cause for optimism too.

  13. Toffees looking over their shoulderspublished at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2018

    Everton v Leicester (19:45 GMT)

    Conor McNamara
    MOTD commentator at Goodison Park

After four wins in his first five games, Sam Allardyce has now lost four of his last five. New £27m signing Cenk Tosun only had one shot in his first two games - and that went wide.

Although in the top half, Everton started this midweek with only a six-point buffer above the relegation zone.

Claude Puel doesn't get half the credit he deserves. After finishing eighth last year with Southampton (look at them now), Puel is on target for an even better position with Leicester.

Peterborough's consolation goal while losing 5-1 in the FA Cup on Saturday was the first Leicester had conceded in 2018.

Man City v West Brom (20:00 GMT)

Manchester City throw record signing Aymeric Laporte straight into the starting XI with John Stones left out of the matchday squad through illness.

Bernardo Silva comes into midfield with Leroy Sane sidelined with an ankle injury picked up on FA Cup duty. With Fabian Delph out, Oleksandr Zinchenko, the 21-year-old Ukrainian, keeps his place at left-back after his start in the last league game against Newcastle.

    Man City

Jonny Evans, apparently subject to transfer deadline day interest from Arsenal, is left out of the West Brom squad. However Daniel Sturridge, signed on loan from Liverpool earlier this week, is on the bench.

Instead In-form Jay Rodriguez starts up front alongside Salomon Rondon.

Claudio Yacob comes into midfield alongside Grzegorz Krychowiak, with Sam Field also starting.

Gareth Barry is on the bench with Gareth McAuley captaining the side.
