    Newport 0-0 Tottenham

    Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Sport Wales at Rodney Parade

It didn't seem Rodney Parade could get much louder when the teams walked out on to the pitch, but the volume keeps on rising.

The sell-out crowd thought the Exiles were about to take a shock lead when Joss Labadie's cross found its way to Frank Nouble, but the deafening noise came from cries of despair as he skied his effort over.

    It is absolutely bouncing here.

  2. 'Spurs should be losing'published at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2018

    Newport County 0-0 Tottenham

    John Hartson
Former Wales striker on 5 Live

It's a wonderful chance for Nouble and Newport County to get the first goal. He leans back and hits it well over the goal - you've got to at least hit the target in that situation. What a chance!

If Tottenham didn't know they were going to be in a game, they do now. They should be a goal behind.

    Newport 0-0 Tottenham

Joss Labadie is having an absolute stormer, he hustles Victor Wanyama, wins the ball and then shoots from about 20 yards out, but it is straight at Michel Vorm.

    Newport 0-0 Tottenham

Eric Dier is pressured in midfield and loses the ball in a dangerous area to Joss Labadie, he crosses for Frank Nouble, but the 6ft 3in winger rushes his shot and blazes over.

Great start by the home team.

  5. 'Brilliant moment'published at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2018

    Newport County 0-0 Tottenham

    John Hartson
Former Wales striker on 5 Live

It's a brilliant moment for the Newport County players. It's a great atmosphere but the players will have to match that atmosphere if Newport are going to get anything at all out of this against a top Spurs side.

Fernando Llornete is playing with Harry Kane up front today. I wonder if Mauricio Pochettino has taken one look at the pich and thought 'we won't be passing it around much, might have to go a bit longer'.

  11. Tottenham's culture shockpublished at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2018

    Newport v Tottenham (17:30 GMT)

    Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Sport Wales at Rodney Parade

This is going to be quite a culture shock for Tottenham.

The pitch at Rodney Parade may have been relaid last summer but the modest facilities at this 140-year-old ground – shared with two rugby teams – are in stark contrast to the velvet-smooth playing surface and creature comforts at Spurs’ Wembley home.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are the first top flight team to play a competitive game in Newport since 1986, three years before the old Newport County went out of business.

This is the furthest the new club – formed just months later – has ever been in the FA Cup and a record crowd for a football game of almost 10,000 is expected at the temporarily expanded Rodney Parade.

“It’s an old-fashioned stadium. It is quite a small changing room the away one, it's cold,” says Newport manager Mike Flynn.

“It’s old, but it's good enough for us, it’s our home. So for us it’s important and it is intimidating to go to Rodney Parade.

“It will be a bit of a leveller. The pitch is a lot better than it was by it's still not Wembley.”

While Spurs are currently playing their home games at the 90,000 seater Wembley Stadium,

Newport share Rodney Parade with a few friends..two rugby teams in fact, the Dragons and Newport RFC.

Looking at the pitch today, it's going to be a muddy one.

    Newport v Tottenham (17:30 GMT)

Standing in Spurs' way is League Two side Newport County.

You have to go back 58 years, for the last meeting between the sides on 9 January 1960.

That day saw Bill Nicholson's Tottenham win 4-0 in a third round tie at Somerton Park.

Spurs had also won 4-1 at White Hart Lane against County in the fourth round 12 months earlier.

Robbie Keane, Dimitar Berbatov, Jermaine Jenas...Pascal Chimbonda, Didier Zokora...

All winners of Tottenham's last trophy - the League Cup in 2008.

Will this be the season that Spurs can end their 10-year wait for silverware?

The Premier League is already beyond them, a tough Champions League last-16 tie against Juventus awaits in February, so the FA Cup may be a good chance for Mauricio Pochettino's men to start filling that trophy cabinet and finally fulfilling their potential.

Gary Lineker says his former club face a "watershed moment".
