Bristol City boss Lee Johnson told Sky Sports:

"It was a bit cagey in the first half, with both teams showing a bit too much respect to each other.

"But in the second half it opened up, it was end to end, both teams had some good chances and Luke Steele had to pull off two very good saves.

"You could say we were lucky to get away with a point but we worked very hard. It's a good point for us and it stops the mini rot."

On the Jerome penalty appeal: "To be fair, it did look like a penalty but sometimes you get away with those."

Elsewhere tonight, Newport County have moved up to fifth in League Two with a 2-1 win over mid-table Crawley at Rodney Parade.

The Welsh club are now just one point off an automatic promotion place.

Derby stay second, increasing their advantage over third-placed Cardiff to three points ahead of the Bluebirds' game at Hillsborough tomorrow.

But the Rams miss the chance to narrow the gap to leaders Wolves to seven points. They're nine points off the Molineux club.

Meanwhile, Bristol City climb above Aston Villa in to fourth, five points behind Derby.

Bristol City keeper Luke Steele - who came on as a half-time substitute - adds to Sky Sports:

"We were due a clean sheet and it all starts at the back.

"Although Derby had a few chances, I think we deserved that. We take a positive point away."

As the Robins end their five-game losing run, Bristol City centre-back Aden Flint tells Sky Sports:

"We had to stop the rot. It was vital that we got a point, minimum.

"We've got a good clean sheet and a point."

The players go off to the sound of boos aimed at the officials, as the home fans bemoan the decision not to award Derby a late penalty - booking Cameron Jerome for simulation instead.

It certainly was a contentious moment.

One last Derby attack comes to nothing and that's it, it's a draw.

Bristol City nearly pinch it in stoppage time but Korey Smith's low shot from the edge of the D goes narrowly wide.

We're in to the final minute of normal time and Derby are getting restless. Time is running out and they really feel they should be ahead.

Controversy! Derby want a penalty as Cameron Jerome goes down in the area, but instead their new striker is booked for diving.

But replays show he is DEFINITELY caught by Aden Flint.

Perhaps the referee thought Jerome went down too purposefully. But the Rams want a penalty that isn't coming.

Just under five minutes remain and, if either side score now, it'll surely be the winner.

Derby need a goal if they want to narrow the gap on leaders Wolves to seven points.

Bristol City have had far fewer chances than Derby in this game, but they still look capable of snatching this. They break well.

Famara Diedhiou holds the ball up nicely on the edge of the Derby area, but his pass to Jamie Paterson is just slightly too forceful.

Derby have played some good stuff tonight, but George Thorne shooting in to the stands from 35 yards out won't go down as one of the good bits.

That's wasteful from him.

All three Derby subs almost combine but Sam Winnall can't quite connect properly with Andreas Weimann's low cross and it's too far in front of Cameron Jerome at the far post.
