Korey Smith clips the heels of David Nugent and Derby have a free-kick, around 40 yards out, in the middle of the park.

It goes towards the back stick, but Curtis Davies can't direct his header goalwards. Goal kick.

So far, it's a bit like when you're trying to get a fire going but you're useless with the box of matches and can't get a flame going.

This match, luckily, has nearly 75 minutes left.

    Derby County 0-0 Bristol City

Marlon Pack's free-kick finds the head of the giant Aden Flint, but keeper Scott Carson gets down well to get two hands to the downward header.

  4. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Derby County 0-0 Bristol City

Neither side has really settled in to a sustained spell of passing yet, but Bristol City are starting to see a bit more of the ball.

Derby's Tom Lawrence gives away a free-kick inside the Rams' half, so the Robins will send the defenders up to attack this one.

Derby think they're in behind the Bristol City backline with David Nugent, but he's a yard or so offside.

    Almost, David almost.

I've had my calculator out in the past hour and can tell you that this Derby starting XI has an average age of 28.3, which is relatively high.

That's nearly three years older than the average age of this Bristol City team (just 25.5).

There's a huge amount of experience in this Rams side.

It's a quiet first three minutes at Pride Park, but George Thorne does have the first shot at goal of the game.

The Derby man clips it well over the bar from long range.

The head-to-head stats don't make pretty reading for the Robins, whose last win at Derby came in April 2011.

Jon Stead and Cole Skuse were on target in a 2-0 victory.

  12. Carson for England?published at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

Derby County v Bristol City (19:45 GMT)

Goalkeeper Scott Carson has been a key figure behind Derby's success this season, keeping 13 clean sheets.

The 32-year-old signed a new contract at Pride Park on Thursday, keeping him at the Rams until 2020.

And boss Gary Rowett believes Carson, who won the last of his four England caps in 2011, is worthy of consideration for an international recall.

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson is in no doubt about the size of the task facing his side this evening - partly because of the familiar faces within the Derby ranks.

"Derby are a good side with a good manager, they're very organised, with players who can produce moments of individual brilliance," Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol.

"I played with Richard Keogh (at Bristol City), managed Sam Winnall (at Barnsley) and played against three or four of their lads as well.

"They are a very well established Championship club."

"It is great to have Famara [Diedhiou] back," Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson has told BBC Radio Bristol in the past half an hour.

"He has looked really sharp. Credit goes to the sports scientists and physios for getting him back. He is moving very well.

"Our bench is strong tonight. We've got various options we can use if we need to."

Given the two sides' recent form - Derby unbeaten in eight in the league and Bristol City on the back of five defeats in all competitions - the Rams start tonight as favourites.

But Derby boss Gary Rowett won't be underestimating the Robins, especially given that they thrashed his side 4-1 at Ashton Gate back in September.

"I don't expect anything other than a top Bristol City performance," Rowett told BBC Radio Derby. "They are a really good side and they have been one of the best sides in the division this year.

"They have loads of energy, are a really young side and we will be very aware of what they are good at, but we are at home, are in very good form and our focus is always on us."

Derby County v Bristol City (19:45 GMT)

Two of the Championship's hottest goalscorers go head-to-head this evening.

Derby's Matej Vydra, a proven Championship performer with Watford in the past, is the division's joint top scorer, alongside Sheffield United's Leon Clarke.

But Bristol City's Bobby Reid isn't far behind and is enjoying easily the best season of his career.

Victory for the Exiles, who start the game 10th in the table, would lift them up to fifth, only one point off an automatic promotion place.

Who would be your "top trumps"?

    Cameron JeromeImage source, Getty Images

Derby boss Gary Rowett has joked that signing Cameron Jerome gives him a fine card-playing hand, as well as a fine striker, suggesting the former Norwich man would be a good Top Trumps card.

Which of course begs the question.... Which English Football League players' cards would you like in your hand, if you were playing Top Trumps?

Personally, I'd be confident to go with Adebayo Akinfenwa's strength rating.
