A little push from behind but it was good to see Ross Barkley stretch that Arsenal defence early on. Promising signs.

The 5,000 Chelsea fans are making plenty of the noise in the Emirates, singing their manger's name. Conte has already covered about 20kms in his technical area. Arsene Wenger is patiently sat in the dugout in his sleeping bag coat.

Here comes Ross Barkley, what a stage to make his Chelsea debut.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 30 mins

    Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea

Ross Barkley trots on in an unfamiliar shade of blue.

Straight into the fray as the 24-year-old chases a long ball down the channel and is sent tumbling into the hoardings via a muscular shoulder from Laurent Koscielny.

    All friends after apparently.

Willian's day is done. The Brazilian hobbles to the sideline with an apparent hamstring twang.

Ross Barkley - last spotted playing here for Everton in defeat to Arsenal back in May - is pulling off the trackie on the sidelines.

    Incoming.

I can see why Chelsea are trying to buy a big target man, just gives them another option when the fancy flicks and silky skills aren't cutting the mustard.

More harem-scarem football - this game is more interpretative dance than military drill.

Cesar Azpilicueta's nothing-much ball into the box is rescued on the byeline by Pedro.

David Ospina rashly chases out of his goal and, from Pedro's lay-off, Eden Hazard attempts a extravagant rabona cross.

    Comes to nothing.

    But full marks for entertainment.

Chelsea have had 71% of possession in the last 10 minutes.

OfficialBlee69: Although I'd much prefer a player of a higher calibre, maybe the links to Evans aren't such a bad idea after all...

ishambond1: Arsenal really need to get a world class defender soon to plug those leaky holes at the back

peterha23351026: With a shaky defence and our main current attacking threat being a defender, maybe Arsene should consider buying another midfielder - not sure we have quite enough of them to fill a whole team

It's going to be congested in that midfield during this game. Arsenal seem to have more freedom in the centre with Mesut Ozil getting involved but it's out wide where problems are going to be caused for both sides.

That is the ball for Arsenal.

Chelsea's defence is sitting high and a long welly over the top isolates Andreas Christensen against the pace of Alexandre Lacazette.

It is an even footrace and, with the help of Cesar Azpilicueta, Christensen comes away with the ball.

But that tactic is worth revisiting for the Gunners.

Eden Dzeko is playing for Roma tonight but has been strongly linked with Chelsea....

Chelsea to win tonight and Dzeko to score a last minute winner against City in the final.

More top-shelf naughtiness from Eden Hazard.

The Belgian dummies over the top of Pedro's ball to his feet, selling Shkodran Mustafi into next week.

Willian is onto it in a flash, but drags his shot wide under pressure from a scampering Nacho Monreal.

It is still very open out there. Both teams swinging and not worrying about keeping their guard up at the back.

Marcos Alonso's low cross is half-volleyed clear by Shkodran Mustafi in the Arsenal box.

    Eden Hazard

An absolute eyesore of a corner kick from Willian goes straight to Alexandre Lacazette at the top of the box.

Maybe he was returning the favour to Iago Aspas from 2014.

Eden Hazard gets his legs tangled with Mesut Ozil's as the two playmakers chase upfield.

That is a booking for the Belgian from Michael Oliver.

Remember, away goals only come into the equation at the end of any extra-time.

As it stands we are heading for another half-hour at the end of normal time.

Plenty to go though and Chelsea are pressing as Victor Moses skips past Alex Iwobi and wins a corner.

Fair play to Arsenal - since Chelsea's goal went in they've been the better side. But you won't see many more sloppy goals than the two we've seen so far tonight. That was a very fortunate goal!

    Antonio Rudiger OG

Nacho Monreal plays penalty-area pinball and comes up with a top score.

The Spaniard's header from a deep corner, ricochets off the head of Marcos Alonso and then Antonio Rudiger and beyond a befuddled Willy Caballero.

It is a sizeable deflection off the head of Rudiger.

You don't see many goals like that. But they are all worth one.

    Level pegs.

  19. Caballero OK?published at 10 mins

    Arsenal 0-1 Chelsea

Arsenal are off in chase of a leveller to reinflate the atmosphere in a winded Emirates Stadium.

Alex Iwobi's sharp square ball has a little too much zip on it for Jack Wilshere and the ball skips away from his first touch in the box.

Willy Caballero is out to smother at the England midfielder's feet. A slight knock to the knee for Caballero, but he is ready to go after a dab of the magic sponge.

JayAmz1986: Not sure how Mhikitaryan will solve the defensive shambles.

JM_ManUtd16: Eden Hazard! One chance one goal. Morata missed 3 of those 2 weeks ago. What a phenomenal player and I can see arsenal being thumped.
