Bournemouth came from behind to beat Stoke City as Paul Lambert suffered his first defeat in charge of the Potters.

Xherdan Shaqiri, who had earlier had a shot cleared off the line by Steve Cook, put Stoke ahead early on when he headed in from debutant Badou Ndiaye's cross.

Bournemouth had a shot cleared off the line by Erik Pieters and Jack Butland saved efforts from Junior Stanislas and Joshua King, before King fired in a low equaliser.

Nine minutes later, substitute Lys Mousset scored his first Premier League goal as he headed in Jordon Ibe's free-kick to give Bournemouth the win.

The defeat drops Stoke back into the relegation zone, while Bournemouth move up to ninth, although they could return to 10th if Everton avoid defeat against Arsenal in the late game on Saturday.

A mixture of relief and elation for the home fans as Paul Tierney blows the full-time whistle, not long after Callum Wilson missed the chance to make sure of the victory with a third.

They may have been the only Premier League side not to sign a player in January, but Bournemouth's run of results since Christmas has lifted them to the dizzy heights of the top half of the table.

Paul Lambert's unbeaten start to life as Stoke boss is over - and Joe Allen's lengthy questioning of Tierney at full-time indicates the Potters are none too happy to have blown a lead like that.

Can Bournemouth see this one out? Ryan Shawcross is up as an emergency striker for Stoke.

The Cherries' last home win over Stoke was 16 years and one day ago, a 3-1 success on 2 February 2002 in the third tier. Eddie Howe and his assistant Jason Tindall were in the Bournemouth starting XI - as were four other members of their current coaching and backroom staff.

The clubs had contrasting fortunes that season - Stoke were promoted to Division One (now the Championship) via the play-offs, and Bournemouth were relegated.

What a time for Lys Mousset to score his first Premier League goal.

The French striker, signed from Le Havre in the summer of 2016, has had to patiently wait for opportunities in Eddie Howe's first team, and after netting against Wigan in the FA Cup, and on several occasions for France Under-21s, he finally has his name on the scoresheet in English league football.

It must also be a measure of Howe's faith in Mousset that fellow striker Benik Afobe was allowed to leave on loan as the transfer window closed.

Excellent from Ryan Fraser who fizzes a low ball across the face of goal. Lys Mousset cannot get the much-needed touch that would have taken it into the net. Stoke hanging on at the moment.

A powerful runs from substitute Lys Mousset sets up a chance, but Jordon Ibe can't make the most of it. Moments later it falls to Dan Gosling, but he shoots over the top. Bournemouth on the front foot now.

After a prolific spell in front of goal in the second half of last season's it's only Joshua King's fourth club goal this season and his first since November - although he has also bagged three for Norway this term.

Badou Ndiaye's eventful Stoke debut is over as he is substituted - but Paul Lambert should be pleased with the midfielder's all-action display.

Both sides will fancy their chances of winning this one. Just under 20 minutes left for someone to grab the three points.

Stoke have conceded the most goals in the league, but this would be their third clean sheet in three matches since Paul Lambert took over.

The visitors are happy to sit deep, but remain a threat on the counter attack.

Nevertheless, it is Bournemouth who create the next chance, but Callum Wilson gets his angles wrong and drags his effort across the face of goal.

Nearly a second for Stoke. The corner from the left is met by the on-rushing Peter Crouch. Obviously no Bournemouth man can get close to Crouch in the air, and his header bounces off the top of the bar.

A corner from the left wing causes some panic in the area. Stoke manage to clear it, the ball is recycled into the box, but once again away captain Ryan Shawcross is in the right place to head away the danger.

Joshua King is booked for diving and deservedly so after throwing himself to the ground in the penalty area. There is absolutely no contact from Kurt Zouma's challenge and King is rightly left embarrassed after trying to con the referee.

Nearly a Stoke record for Peter Crouch. He is on 43 Premier League goals for the club, needing one more to have the outright record.

He nearly gets it as well, catching a shot on the half volley, but Asmir Begovic parries it away.
