Jordan Pickford found the pass of the game to put Oumar Niasse in down the left. What followed was wasteful though, it was a poor attempted pass inside.

The quality has been lacking in the first half from both sides. There is no cutting edge at all.

Sadly, not full-time.

Watford assistant Jesus Casas appears to gesture something towards the Everton bench.

Opposite number Duncan Ferguson - not one to look the other way - gestures back.

If Everton can get the first goal it will really put the pressure on Watford. All their best work has come through Gerard Deulofeu, everything is going through him.

Up to now though back to front distribution has not been good enough.

The resulting free-kick is struck by Gerard Deulofeu - and in keeping with the lack of quality - hits the wall.

Moments later, Oumar Niasse takes one in the head. He looks groggy and comes off.

Michael Keane won the ball for Everton and he catches Abdoulaye Doucouré with his follow through but you can't stop once you are committed to the tackle.

It's a modern day complaint.
