Everton were very good today. Not scintillating in the first half but they were up for the fight all day long and when the opening goal came they never looked back.

Everton deserved this. We can draw a line under the first half but slowly but surely Sam Allardyce is getting there with this team. Sam is doing what Sam does and there's more structure.

Sam Allardyce is chewing like his life depends on it.

He deserves credit as his half-time team talk had an impact, there's no doubt.

As Palace go long, Everton have their defence and midfield close together to pick up any scraps.

Crystal Palace are back in it but Everton have managed things well since that goal. They win a corner and are in no rush to take it.

Crystal Palace get the ball back and try to come forward but Everton are nicely set with 10 men behind the ball.

Ashley Williams handles a ball in the area. It's harsh as it's from point-blank range.

You can see one or two tired Everton players now. They have put the game beyond Crystal Palace.

That's three career goals for Tom Davies now by my money.

Idrissa Gueye has 57 touches, only Theo Walcott on 58 has more.

Gueye is full of running and draws a foul on halfway.

Idrissa Gueye scampers after Andros Townsend to prevent him crossing the halfway line on the right flank. Wayne Rooney continues to complement Gueye nicely in midfield and he keeps moves ticking over.

The home side are dictating terms and even when two down, Palace are dropping striker Alexander Sorloth back to left wing when they don't have the ball. I just don't get that.

Jordan Pickford keeps Everton two goals to the good and denies Alexander Sorloth a debut goal. Sorloth smartly heads a Patrick van Aanholt cross at goal and Pickford dives to his right to get two hands on it. Corner. Great stuff by all involved.

It should be Crystal Palace forcing the issue but instead their defender Joel Ward is the man doing the defending, heading clear at his back post.

The Everton physio has just run over to Martina and asked if he is OK. Martina gestured as if to say I will make the decision.

Cuco Martina looks like he has a hamstring problem. He could be the third Everton defender to go off with an injury today. Jordan Pickford plucks a ball out of the air under no challenge.

I think Christian Benteke is getting in the right positions at the moment, so you've got to put it down to a lack of confidence, I think. Because he's still getting the chances, he's just not putting them away.

When you're full of confidence you're just thinking about where you're celebrating, but when you're down there's a lot more on your mind.

Everton are looking comfortable now. As Jordan Pickford sends a goal kick upfield they can afford to be compact in order to keep control of this game.

Palace need to take a risk or two and it just doesn't look like happening. Wayne Rooney pings a low pass into the feet of a team-mate. He's been good in that deep midfield role.
