  1. Neil's anguish at Preston's missed chancepublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 2 April 2018

    Reaction: Preston 0-1 Derby

    Alex NeilImage source, PA

In the first game of the day, Derby won in the Championship for the first time in nine matches to cling on to their play-off place at the expense of hopefuls Preston.

Preston missed the chance to go ahead when Alan Browne put a first-half penalty wide and Tom Lawrence punished them with a free-kick after the break to take all three points.

"Results are what matter at this stage of the season," Preston boss Alex Neil told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"If you look at the performance, we had plenty of possession, passed the ball, had 19 shots, but only two were on target, which is disappointing.

"But, we're at that stage of the season where the margins are so fine and the only stat that matters is the scoreline."

The stats suggest there has been one shot on target from Wigan in this half - that 30-yard effort from Max Power.

And I'm not even sure that was going in.

Where is a moment of magic coming from?

Dreadful. Nick Powell bends the free-kick straight into the wall.

    As you were.

Wigan boss Paul Cook has been told to calm down by referee Tim Robinson after his protests following that penalty shout.

He sits down. For about 30 seconds though. He's back up and barking orders.

    Is that a penalty?

Michael Jacobs goes down under pressure from Nathan Thompson, but the Wigan man's protests are waved away.

    It would have been soft.

Pompey had the better of the opening 10 minutes, but since then Wigan have come back into it. It's intriguing and I'm sure we'll see more energy from Wigan as the game goes on.

Reaction: MK Dons 1-2 Blackburn Rovers

Earlier in League One, Blackburn replaced Wigan at the top after Adam Armstrong's first-half brace helped them to a 2-1 victory at MK Dons.

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray saw his side weather a late rally from the hosts to hang on for all three points and he wasn't getting carried away by reaching the summit.

"We deserved to win the game despite how it went towards the end as teams are going to have a go at us," Mowbray told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"Their tales are up with nothing to lose and that's football, so we have to deal with that.

"I'm happy enough, but it's just the next game for us that we have to tick it off and keep going."

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 25 mins

Nathan Thompson now goes into the book.

The Pompey defender trips Nick Powell by the left touchline and is shown a yellow.

It's a free-kick in a dangerous area but comes to nothing.

    Portsmouth 0-0 Wigan

Wigan are enjoying the majority of possession, but can't create anything.

Portsmouth are lumping it long to Brett Pitman, but it's a bit of a fruitless task up top on his own.

    Goal please.

  11. YELLOW CARDpublished at 19 mins

That's cynical from Wigan's Callum Elder.

He slides in on Jamal Lowe, sends the winger flying, and out comes the yellow card. Deservedly so.

    Better from Portsmouth.

Brett Pitman finds himself wide on the right, pings in a cross but Jamal Lowe can't get on the end of it.

Both teams are resorting to plenty of long balls.

The pitch is very heavy after weeks of rain.

The Pompey fans are trying to lift their team - it's a superb atmosphere inside Fratton Park.

Wigan boss Paul Cook had plenty of good times at the helm of Portsmouth, guiding them to the League Two title last season.

What an achievement it will be if the Liverpudlian claims back-to-back championships.

It's a bit of a stalemate in the opening stages at Fratton Park. Frenetic, but not much quality in the final third so far.

Max Power fires a low shot towards goal for Wigan from about 30 yards and Luke McGee tips it wide.

It looked like it was off target anyway, but the Pompey stopper had to make sure.

Wigan launch their first attack, but Michael Jacobs can't deliver from the left.

First his cross is weak and cleared, and then the follow up is overhit and out for a goal kick.

Paul Cook is pacing on the touchline. I wonder if he ever sits down at home?

It will be interesting watching the fitness levels of the players as this game goes on. The pitch looks heavy and wet and Wigan have had 24 hours more than Pompey to rest up over this Easter weekend.
