It's Sane again and on a night when it's so cold, he's white hot. He bursts into life and they move so well. It's an economy of movement, one touch, two touch, but it's Sane who unlocks it. It's football of the highest order

    David Silva

    Game over?

Arsenal's defence is a wet sheet of paper, Manchester City's forward line is a battering ram.

Breathtaking, lightning, sweeping attacking play by City results in the second goal. David Silva starts it all, into Leroy Sane, who finds Sergio Aguero to lay the ball back to Silva. Clinical finish by the Spaniard.

Wonderful, wonderful stuff by the soon-to-be champions.

It's just as well it was offside because you cannot believe there's a City player in that much space. Welbeck was, in fact, the furthest player back

Wicked delivery from Kevin de Bruyne. nasty for Petr Cech to deal with, especially when Aguero is making a nuisance of himself. Flag goes up against Aguero, though.

Ramsey hit a great effort but it's a great save by the keeper. But it was good to see Ramsey get forward and Bellerin putting in a good cross when he's in that position

City's only shot on target has resulted in their goal. Arsenal have had more. The issue the Gunners have is that City look like they could score every time they go forward.

Arsenal not cowed by going behind. Aaron Ramsey's snap shot is well held by a diving Ederson. The home fans sing. Decent match, this.

That's where the intention is from Arsenal. They do look like they want to get numbers forward and it's a clear block on Welbeck for the free-kick. But before that Xhaka gave a ball to Koscielny which he really didn't want. Is Xhaka really good enough for Arsenal at this level?

For as good as the finish was, the work done by Leroy Sane was sublime. Quietly, he's had a wonderful season. In the immediate aftermath of the goal, City looked like they were going for the kill, only for an Arsenal counter to result in a foul on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Nicolas Otamendi goes in the book and Ederson saves the long-range free-kick.

Sane's close control is of the highest order. Bernardo Silva then cuts in from Sane's pass and he absolutely punishes Arsenal with the quality he has. He finds the top corner with his left foot, a flash of brilliance from an outstanding team

    Bernardo Silva

Never mind about Arsenal's bright start. Bernardo Silva has scored an opener so handsome you could take it home to meet your parents.

It's dead simple, too. Manchester City canter up the field, Leroy Sane has space on the left corner of the box and squares it to Bernardo, who is arriving from the opposite corner. Precision, curling finish into the top corner beats a flying Petr Cech and makes Arsenal's mountain a little higher.

I reckon Arsenal have had more good moments in this first quarter of an hour than the whole of Sunday's League Cup final. Henrikh Mkhitaryan skims the daises with a shot that Ederson saves comfortably.

Arsenal have come to tango? You can imagine that Arsene Wenger gets dragged to a dance class by Mrs Wenger once a week. It used to be on Thursdays, but now it's Tuesdays or Wednesdays, because he's not as busy on those nights any more. In the summer, they go to ballroom competitions. Blackpool. Minehead. Skegness.

The cross came off Kompany and Ederson does well to gather. And if Arsenal attack, City will look to counter-attack. But Arsenal look like they've come to tango tonight.

Could have gone anywhere. Aaron Ramsey finds himself free on the right of the City box and flashes the ball across goal. It hits Vincent Kompany and is pounced on by Ederson. On another day that's an OG. Arsenal have actually started brightly.

We played a Sunday league game and couldn't see the lines on the pitch because it was white all over. Ref played first half and were losing 2-0. He got the captains at half-time and asked if we wanted to carry on, they did and we didn't. We played the second half and won 3-2 They complained the match should never have been played.

City, by the way, are in their change strip of all navy blue. No idea why they have to switch tonight when they played in their home kit of sky blue on Sunday. They are attacking the goal to the left as we watch on.

  20. 'Mustafi needs protection'published at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2018

    Arsenal 0-0 Manchester City

    Martin Keown
Former Arsenal defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

You defend as a team, there has to be that psyche. Ian Rush used to defend from the front and you need that. It’s in the DNA and that doesn't seem to be there with Arsenal now. Is Xhaka doing what Fernandinho does? No. He gives the ball away, makes rash challenges, gets booked too often. He’s an ever-present so Wenger trusts him but I feel he’s let him down this season.

Confidence is everything. The way Mustafi conceded the first goal on Sunday is almost unforgivable but he needs protection. Will Ozil give that? Will Ramsey give that? So many Arsenal players need to put on a big performance tonight.
