  2. Smalling and Lindelof platform for winpublished at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2018

Ex-England manager on BBC Radio 5 live

Huddersfield did as good as they possibly could have done.

But United did a job on them. They defended with their lives and Lindelof and Smalling were magnificent – they were the platform for this win.

Their front three tore Huddersfield apart. That’s how they win. They have quality on the field and on the bench.

Manchester United is a big club and there is huge pressure and responsibility when you wear that red shirt.

Dan Washbourne: Ultimately, Huddersfield's season won't be decided by losing a cup game to Man United, but if they can play like this against those relegation rivals in the next six games there's every chance they'll get a follow-up season in the Premiership.

Graham RB: Really enjoyed watching Huddersfield batter Man Utd in terms of possession and attacking intent. Shame the bus was working well today and Lukaku’s smash and grab.

Sons of Punjab: Not been a vintage Utd performance by any means but it has been a solid and professional one, got to give Utd credit for that tonight.

    Steve McClaren

It was strange to see Lukaku and Mourinho to have a father and son chat at half time.

Whatever was said, it has affected him as he got two great goals today.

Mourinho is always humble when he wins games - but when he loses he's straight down the tunnel.

This has been a good Cup tie. Huddersfield would have loved to have won it but, talking to a number of their fans, their Premier League game next week is crucial.

As for a clinical Man Utd, will anyone - heart of hearts - want to meet them in the quarters. They look good.

    Mark Ojuok: McTominay...future Carrick.

Death Ape Disco: Carrick in, cohesive United team. McTominay's done well as well, physical, hard-working. Carrick STILL not replaced. Not replaceable?

Misterged: All the talk of United’s DNA being corrupted by Mourinho... Sir Alex knew how to get results pretty or not. This season started with plenty of entertainment.

Thomas: Another perfect smash and grab job by United masterminded by Jose the master tactician. The players are doing what he is asking of them, it maybe boring but they are still in the cup.

Mourinho gets criticised for not improving players but Lukaku's general play has improved night and day since the start of the season. Glad to see his goal scoring touch is coming back too.
