Celtic’s defending has been poor overall against a side that have not lived up to the hype despite the scoreline.

Brendan Rodgers must be so frustrated after the promise of the first leg. His side failed to create many genuine chances with Andrei Lunyov a virtual spectator until Olivier Ntcham fired straight at the goalkeeper and Rogic also tested him.

They have been picked off far too simply, simple as that.

It is an all too familiar script for Celtic away from home in European competition.

For an experienced player, Lustig should have done much better. If you look at the goals Celtic have conceded tonight... first goal - bad defending; second goal - mistake by the goalkeeper; third goal - bad defending again. The disappointment is they are up against what I don't think is a brilliant team. Zenit are decent, but they are not Champions League level. Celtic just haven't played tonight

Scott Sinclair weaves into the Zenit penalty box and finds Tom Rogic 12 yards from goal.

The Australian's poked effort is again straight at Andrey Lunyov, but at least Celtic are finding the target.

They might be wondering why they were not more adventurous earlier.

At last, a Celtic shot on target.

Olivier Ntcham's snap shot from 18 yards is, however, straight at goalkeeper Andrey Lunyov.

Before Celtic can make a change, they find themselves another goal down.

Birthday boy Branislav Ivanovic drives a low ball across the face of the Celtic goal and Aleksandr Kokorin beats Mikael Lustig to it and bundles it over the line from close range.

That's the Russia forward's 19th goal of the season.

A second effort on goal from Celtic already.

Olivier Ntcham's low grasscutter is well wide, but the visitors have shown more attacking intent in the first two minutes of the second half than in the whole of the first.

Penny for your thoughts Brendan? Stick or twist?

Does he change personnel and tactics to get a precious away goal back?

Zenit have pushed up on Scott Brown and nullified the influence of the Celtic captain in front of his back four.

However, remember, Celtic only need to score once to go through as it stands.

It has been a complete turnaround from last week. We expected a better performance from Zenit, but we didn't expect Celtic to be so bad. They have had quite a bit of possession, but they have not hurt Zenit with it. Once again, Celtic have been punished at a set-piece in European football, because they just don't mark correctly in those situations

The formula that worked at Celtic Park is not working here. Brendan Rodgers’ side have enjoyed a fair degree of possession but have been unable to do much with it with Andrei Lunev completely untested.

Tom Rogic looks to be warming up. It seems Rodgers is going to change things and he has shown an ability to alter the course of matches in the past with a change of personnel and tactics.

One goal is all Celtic need to progress if they don’t concede. On the evidence of the two goals they lost, that appears a tall order.
