The night started with us wondering if Wolves could have their lead at the top of the table cut to goal difference and ends with the Molineux side 10 points clear of third-placed Aston Villa.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men put Saturday's defeat by Villa firmly behind them with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Reading, while Villa flopped to a lacklustre 3-1 home defeat by QPR.

Cardiff capitalised on Villa's capitulation with a 3-1 win at Brentford to go seven points clear of Steve Bruce's men.

Steve Evans makes it two wins from two after taking over at Peterborough United with a late winner from Jack Marriott against Bury.

Struggling MK Dons beat Rotherham United 3-2 to end their winless run under new boss Dan Micciche.

Jimmy Ryan earned Blackpool a big win against Charlton while Rochdale and Southend shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

A huge 3-0 win for Hull City at Ipswich moved them nine points clear of the bottom three.

Goals from Markus Henriksen, Harry Wilson and Jarrod Bowen gave the visitors a comfortable win that left Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy so angry he had a post-match teamtalk on the pitch.

Elsewhere, struggling Burton fell to a 2-0 defeat by Sheffield United and Barnsley had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw with Norwich.

    FT: Brentford 1-3 Cardiff

Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba told Sky Sports:

"We dug in and that's what it's all about. It's not about being pretty it's about getting the result.

"We know we have pretty much achieved play-offs but we're not looking at any other team, we just need to keep getting results."

    Brentford 1-3 Cardiff

Cardiff City take three massive points at Griffin Park, recording their seventh Championship win in a row to stay locked in behind leaders Wolves and pull further clear of Aston Villa back in third.

After going behind early on to Neal Maupay's goal, the Bluebirds scored three without reply thanks to Sol Bamba, Callum Paterson and Kenneth Zohore to maintain their impressive form.

Neil Warnock's beaming smile at the whistle showed his delight. Brentford showed glimpses of class but they were overpowered in the end.

    Wolves 3-0 Reading

Wolves now 10 points clear of third-placed Aston Villa.

A double from Matt Doherty and a Benik Afobe strike gave them a comfortable win over struggling Reading.

Very hard to see the Molineux side not going up now.

    Brentford 1-3 Cardiff

Into four minutes of added time, and this is over as a contest.

That said, Brentford continuing to draw spirograph-esque patterns with the ball all over their lush green field.

Alan Judge cuts in on the edge of the box and crash a shot against a Cardiff defender... and the loose ball is swept well wide by John Egan - to which he raises his hands to his head.

    Aston Villa 1-3 QPR

From triumph to disaster for Aston Villa.

A 4-1 win over leaders Wolves on Saturday but humbled by midtable QPR tonight.

Goals from Ryan Manning, Jake Bidwell and Luke Freeman had given the visitors a 3-0 lead before James Chester hammered in a late consolation.

  10. League Two update, updatepublished at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    Coventry 2-2 Luton

Spoke too soon! Luton equaliser thanks to James Collins with two to go!

  11. League Two updatepublished at 21:36 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    Coventry 2-1 Luton

I remember the days when this was a fixture in the old Division One. The era of Micky Gynn and Steve Livingstone against Kingsley Black and Lars Elstrup.

Tonight it's a League Two top-end tussle. The Sky Blues are leading 2-1, Peter Vincenti and Marc McNulty on target with Scott Cuthbert in reply.

Exeter are goalless against Yeovil in a south-west coming-together, while Barnet and Port Vale are one-apiece, although their game is behind because of a delayed kick-off.

Aston Villa give the fans who've stayed something to if not cheer then at least applaud.

Defender James Chester rifles home for a third goal in three games.

  13. League One updatepublished at 21:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    Mk Dons 3-2 Rotherham

Struggling MK Dons are holding on to a precious lead against Rotherham after Jon Taylor reduced the home side's lead to one.

The other three League One games have so far produced a total of zero goals.

  14. Postpublished at 21:31 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    Brentford 1-3 Cardiff

Might just be because he was up from the last set-piece but John Egan is spending a lot of time in the Cardiff box at the moment.

Romaine Sawyers tried to take on the Cardiff defence but wanted too many touches and was robbed, and Ryan Woods was unable to bust the line when he recovered possession soon after.

Brentford would certainly win points for artistic merit if they were available here but, alas they're not and the more functional football from Cardiff is yielding the points.

    Five minutes to go.

    Brentford 1-3 Cardiff

Plenty of ebb and flow between these two teams, surging back and forth like waves rolling up and down the beach.

Cardiff just look a little more assured and determined when they get into the 'danger zone', while Brentford are getting into position but lacking that spot of confidence to stick the chance away.

More subs all round, as Cardiff follow up the substitution of Kenneth Zohore with the removal of Junior Hoilett for Yanic Wildschut.

  16. goal

GOAL - Aston Villa 0-3 QPRpublished at 21:26 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    Luke Freeman

From bad to worse for the hosts.

Luke Freeman, on as a sub, hits a low shot that beats Sam Johnstone at his low post.

Saturday's win over Wolves feels like a long, long time ago now.

  17. CLOSE!published at 21:24 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    Brentford 1-3 Cardiff

Terrific Brentford corner headed toward goal by John Egan and forced a fine reaction save from Neil Etheridge who tipped it over.

However, when the ball was recycled after the corner and pinballed in the box, the Bees were unable to get a clean shot away as Cardiff packed the area.

  18. Postpublished at 21:22 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2018

    Brentford 1-3 Cardiff

The difference between Cardiff and Brentford can be summed up by the chances created in this second half.

Cardiff have caused problems with direct work and crosses into the box, but when Brentford got away down the right a moment ago and the ball was hoisted in, there was no one to attack it. No one.

Alan Judge is on for the hosts. There's a man with magic dust on his boots. A genuinely skilled footballer. He replaces Neal Maupay.

Just under quarter of an hour to go.

    Three goals. Three points.

Matt Doherty finishes wonderfully to give the visitors the win with his second goal of the night.

It's his fourth goal of the season, three of them have been against Reading.

  20. goal

    Josh Murphy

Josh Murphy thumps the visitors level.

He controls James Husband's low cross well before beating Adam Davies at his near post with a fierce shot.

The Tykes just three points clear of the bottom three as it stands.
