  1. Will Chris Coleman stay?published at 17:36 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

    Sunderland relegated to League One

Chris Coleman was appointed by Sunderland in November after Simon Grayson's departure, inheriting a side at the bottom of the table with just one win.

He has picked up a further five victories and, though with the Sunderland support is mixed, the fact he is keen to stay beyond this season is largely seen as a positive.

Most have sympathy with the former Wales boss, who had just one transfer window in which to reshape the squad and inherited a side in the relegation zone.

But detractors will argue he took over in November, thus giving him the games to make changes, and that his January recruitment was not good enough.

    Sunderland relegated to League One

As a Premier League club, the Black Cats were among the minnows in terms of financial muscle. Even in the Championship despite a huge parachute payment, Sunderland were not among the big spenders.

Coming down into League One, while still receiving parachute payments, could suddenly put them in a very different place. From small fry to big fish in one fell swoop.

The only stumbling block will be the wage bill, and the debt that the club has shouldered - limiting funds for recruitment.

Jack Rodwell, Lee Cattermole and Lamine Kone have remained at Sunderland on top-tier money and it seems unlikely Sunderland can truly rebuild until those high-earners are off the books.

Sunderland are relegated to League One after Burton Albion come from behind to win at the Stadium of Light.

Wolves clinch the Championship title with a thumping 4-0 win at Bolton.

Barnsley remain in the bottom three after losing at Leeds, but Birmingham move five points clear of the drop zone with victory over Sheffield United.

Aston Villa keep their automatic hopes alive by thrashing Ipswich, Middlesbrough win at Derby to boost their play-off bid and Bristol City draw a 10-goal thriller at home to Hull.

Well, we've just experienced the best/craziest/exciting/most ludicrous finale to a Saturday afternoon in the EFL in recent memory.

Let's try and sum it all up for you...

  11. FULL-TIMEpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

    Brentford 2-1 QPR

A big win for Brentford who move within a point of the play-off places.

The Bees move up to eighth in the Championship after today's win, level on points with seventh placed Derby who lost to Middlesbrough.

  12. Sunderland relegated to League Onepublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

    FT: Sunderland 1-2 Burton

To confirm, Sunderland are going down for a second consecutive season.

They're six points from safety, with two games to go, but because Burton and Bolton will play each other next weekend, the Black Cats cannot mathematically survive, even if they win both of their remaining games.

  13. FULL-TIMEpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

    Forest Green 4-1 Chesterfield

Two late goals from Dayle Grubb and Christian Doidge added some gloss to the result for the hosts.

Chesterfield are not officially down because Crewe scored a late winner against Morecambe.

However, the Spireites' goal difference is so inferior that in reality, this is the end.

  14. FULL-TIMEpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

    Bristol City 5-5 Hull

The madness ends at Ashton Gate. Five-five.

  15. FULL-TIMEpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

    Sheff Wed 3-0 Reading

Reading are dragged back in to some relegation trouble. They're just five points above Barnsley - who have three games left - and Burton.

  16. FULL-TIME - Luton promoted to League Onepublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

    Carlisle 1-1 Luton

    Luton celebrateImage source, Rex Features

Luton Town are promoted back to League One after a 1-1 draw with Carlisle United.

The Hatters only had to match the result of fourth-placed Exeter and their 2-2 draw with Crawley meant they return to the third tier after a 10-year absence.

  17. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

    Derby 1-2 Middlesbrough

Boro go four points clear of the Rams in the play-off race with a massive away win.

  18. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 21 April 2018

    Preston 0-0 Norwich

Honours even at Deepdale as Preston will surely see this as two points dropped.

  19. FULL-TIME - Sunderland relegated to League Onepublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 21 April 2018
    Breaking

    Sunderland 1-2 Burton

    What a win for Burton.

And, because Burton play Bolton next week, the maths are now very much against Sunderland and the Black Cats are relegated.

  20. FULL-TIME - Wigan promoted to the Championshippublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 21 April 2018
    Breaking

    Fleetwood 0-4 Wigan

    Wigan celebrateImage source, Rex Features

Wigan are promoted back to the Championship after thumping Fleetwood 4-0.

Shrewsbury's failure to beat already-relegated Bury means the Latics are promoted with three games to play.
