It's easy to forget that all this Checkatrade Trophy malarkey started in August - eight months ago.

After beating West Bromwich Albion U21s on their way to coming second in Group E, Shrewsbury beat Port Vale, Blackpool and Oldham in the knockout rounds before sealing their place in the final with victory against Yeovil in the semi-final on 6 March.

Meanwhile Lincoln, who are in their first season back in the English Football League after winning promotion from the National League last season, won their place in today's final a month earlier when they beat Chelsea U21s on penalties.

'Journey' is an often overused word when it comes to television reality shows, football and indeed most sports. That being said, it's been quite the season for Lincoln City and Shrewsbury Town and maybe that word will go some way to explaining it.

It's fair to say both teams have achieved more than they expected this season, with both challenging for promotion on a shoestring budget.

But can they cap off a memorable end to the season by clinching victory at Wembley in the Checkatrade Trophy?

    Kick-off is soon approaching.
