If Cristiano Ronaldo starts cutting in from the left that could cause problems, but the talk around the club is about Trent Alexander-Arnold's character and his resilience. He is a kid and he is going to get caught out of position on occasion, but he is a prospect that will go on and do things for club and country.

Ant, Bham: I'm sorry but I can't celebrate that performance. Can't see games out and Madrid will see that and know we can't control a game. One goal at the end after being 5 up after 70 mins. Very poor.

You've reached a Champions League final!

  5. 'Liverpool on the verge of something'published at 22:07 British Summer Time 2 May 2018

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard on BT Sport: "I'm happy for them. You see the emotion on James Milner's face there, he's been immense. You see the celebrations in the crowd and I know what it means. I know the following this club has got.

"These fans just want this club to compete and they want to be proud of their team. This manager has got them flying, if they go one step further this could be the start of something special under this manager. I think they're on the verge of something really really good."

No-one says anything about Philippe Coutinho anymore. I actually thought when he left it might unsettle Roberto Firmino with his mate leaving, but actually, he has stepped up to the plate and been brilliant.

That's a great point from Lawro, I'd basically forgotten they'd lost the £100m+ man to Barcelona in January

That Liverpool defence might need to tighten up against Cristano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in the final. They will need to score and that's the great thing. They attack and they're bold. The Liverpool fans were brilliant and they backed them all the way with their anthem.

Liverpool midfielder James Milner speaking to BT Sport: "I don't know what to say after that. We know how to make it interesting, don't we? That's what it is all about though - these scenes right here.

"We know we need to do better to see out games. All in all I thought we played quite well but could have controlled it better.

"Nobody said getting to the Champions League final is easy and we've beaten some great teams on the way.

"It was about getting the job done and now we're through to the final. We have to enjoy this but not for too long as we have another important game this weekend."

When asked if some of the players will enjoy some wine tonight: "I might stretch myself out to some Ribena or something, maybe!"

The two young full-backs [Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold] have seriously improved. Loris Karius is relatively inexperienced so maybe we shouldn't be too surprised they have conceded the goals tonight. But the experience they have gained from nights like this will be invaluable. Jurgen Klopp has improved all of his players.

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson on BT Sport: "What a thing to be involved in. Credit to all the lads, we've come through every challenge we've been set. We'll have a great day in Kiev whatever the result.

"First and foremost, you need to remember you're defending the lead and if you do you're in the final. They threw everything at us and we've done brilliant.

"Last season we were fighting for our lives at Hull, now I feel like I'm at home. I'll certainly enjoy Kiev.

"We'll enjoy this tonight and think about that game another day. We'll go in as underdogs but sometimes that can be a good thing."

  18. 'We need to stop that'published at 21:46 British Summer Time 2 May 2018

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson speaking to BT Sport: “We never do it the easy way unfortunately. It was an amazing effort. In the first half we did well and scored some good goals. Overall we handled the situation well apart from the last 10 minutes. We need to stop that but I’m delighted we’re in the final.

“We knew it was important to score and get one early on. We were unlucky with their first goal but overall we have to be happy with what we have done over the two legs. We could have done better in this game but we’ve made it through to the final.

“We have another important game on the weekend against Chelsea and then we have Real Madrid in the final. We will go there with confidence."
