Liverpool won the first leg 5-2 - although it could have been much better.

The Reds led 5-0 through two goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino and one from Sadio Mane.

But, after Jurgen Klopp had replaced Salah with Danny Ings, Edin Dzeko and Diego Perotti gave Roma a sliver of hope.

Right, that's enough chat about the trouble before the first leg and the danger of more violence (which looks like it hasn't really happened yet happily). Let's talk about some actual football shall we?

Although we still want your European away day pictures.

  3. 'Unfortunately, hooligans are everywhere'published at 17:55 British Summer Time 2 May 2018

On the trouble before the first leg, Roma boss Eusebio di Francesco said: "I'm afraid that rotten apples are everywhere in all sets of fans. Obviously someone who does not belong to our true fans did something very, very wrong. My thoughts and prayers go with the family.

"What I can assure you is that here in Rome, the base of Roma fans are really passionate.

"Unfortunately, hooligans are everywhere and you are familiar with that phenomenon. It's a massive issue that is detrimental to the whole footballing world. My appeal is to the fans is to come to the stadium and enjoy a sports festival."

  5. 'A bad ritual' from Roma fanspublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 2 May 2018

A former ‘Ultra’ says that the stabbing of opposition fans is “a ritual”.

Pierluigi Spagnolo told James Horncastle of the 5 live's Euro Leagues Football Show podcast about the behaviour.

"Rome is the city of ‘puncicate’, the 'flash stabbing' in Roman slang, often directed at the buttocks of fans who come on their own to the stadium,” he said.

“It’s a ritual, a bad ritual, that Roma Ultras repeat also against Italian fans."

  10. Liverpool fans: 'We were targeted by Roma supporters'published at 17:30 British Summer Time 2 May 2018

Two Liverpool supporters have told 5 live Breakfast how they were chased through the streets of Rome and then threatened by a group of Roma supporters.

Jamie and Dan were part of a group that had bottles and cigarettes thrown at them as they ran away from a group of supporters on Monday night.

"We had two bottles smash by our feet and they were having flick knives out of their bag saying, 'are you Liverpool or Manchester?'"

  11. 'I fear for Liverpool fans in Rome'published at 17:26 British Summer Time 2 May 2018

Roma v Liverpool (19:45 BST, 2-5 first leg)

    BBC Radio 5 live

Liverpool fan Rob Trotter, who declined tickets to the second leg, speaking yesterday on BBC Radio 5 live:

I am worried for the fans that went over there. Ordinarily I wouldn’t be. In most places it is a common occurrence, people go without tickets, people go to watch it inside bars if there’s large screens. I don’t think that’s happening tomorrow obviously but I do feel that going to Rome is slightly different from my experience, and from the experience of other fans from UK clubs that have travelled there, there does seem to be an element – and I am sure that is exists in all clubs, but it seems to be quite prevalent in Roma fans – that people are looking for trouble.

All the local customs I‘ve been reading about hanging scarves and banners, and you’ll be fined, and there’s particular transport, you socialise in a particular plaza that they are suggesting, which is all I think great, and it’s all they can do. But inevitably people won’t stick to that, they just don’t they’ll want to go out on their own and want to find their own places. That’s what I fear, that people will get isolated.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobelaar - who played in the 1984 European Cup final win over Roma - says violent fans of the Italian club are "cowards".

He told BBC Radio 5 live: "From the game I was at in 1984 I know the stadium and there are vantage points for these crowds to hurl rocks down on the Liverpool fans, and they’ve got to be very mindful of the way that they go in."

‘We’ve conquered all of Europe. We’re never gonna stop!’. That’s what they sing, and sing and sing.

From the Spanish Steps to Piazza del Popolo, you hear them before you see them.

Liverpool’s fans are here for a good time, and why not with a three-goal lead?

Everyone we’ve spoken to today has told us there’s “no drama” and safety concerns have been overblown.

  16. Rome on red alertpublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 2 May 2018

Rome is on red alert with 3,000 police officers deployed to provide extra security during the semi-final.

Liverpool supporter Sean Cox, 53, remains in critical condition after being attacked close to Anfield by visiting supporters before last week's first leg.

Around 5,000 Liverpool fans are expected to attend but police say they can "guarantee the safety of fans" as long as they obey Italian rules.

They have been told not to walk to the ground.

But I'm happy to report it all seems to be going well so far though in the Italian capital.

    Roma v Liverpool (19:45 BST, 2-5 agg)

Liverpool are the joint third most successful side in the history of the European Cup/Champions League - winning five times, and losing another two finals.

Barring a heavy defeat (3-0, 4-1 or by more than three goals) at the Stadio Olimpico tonight, they will be facing Real Madrid in Kiev in final number eight on Saturday, 26 May.

But in this craziest of Champions League seasons, let's not count our chickens yet.

We'll start discussing the game itself in greater length a bit later on but for now let's check in in Rome and find out how it's all going.
