I think Rangers will score today, I'm just not sure about their defence. They will try to create but they have three midfielders that Graeme Murty hopes will help them in defence.

Celtic have to turn up today. There are games we've watched when they haven't converted chances. You expect them to break teams down the way they did last year but they haven't done that.

    Celtic v Rangers (14:30)

Graeme Murty has backed Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos to atone for his costly miss in last month's defeat by Celtic - the 3-2 loss in the Premiership at Ibrox.

The Colombian, who has netted 18 goals this term, failed to beat Celtic keeper Scott Bain from a few yards out as his effort came back off the post and into the arms of the keeper.

And he has yet to score against Celtic.

Alfredo Morelos spurned a glorious chance to equalise in the 3-2 defeat by Celtic at Ibrox

"I've seen Alfredo saying in the press that he is going to score - that's the mindset of a centre-forward," says Murty.

"I believe in the old adage that you'd rather have centre-forwards in the position to miss chances than have them not getting there.

"I believe that Alfredo does get there, that we can find him in there and I do believe that given the opportunity, he could hit the back of the net for us.

"It's about making sure we give him those opportunities and when he gets those - and he may only get one - he takes it with both hands."

  10. Familiar script at Hampden?published at 14:06 British Summer Time 15 April 2018

We all know Celtic have had the measure of Rangers in recent times and many expect something similar today.

At stages in their last meeting though, the Ibrox side troubled Brendan Rodgers’ team enough to give them some encouragement.

Will that defeat play on Rangers’ minds given they had a man advantage? If so, it may be a familiar script.

They have to put that behind them and start this game well.

If Celtic turn up and play, which they haven’t done consistently recently, then the outcome seems straightforward. On form, they’re too strong.

There is so much at stake. Yes, a final awaits both but the incentive of moving closer to a treble or stopping Celtic in their tracks is also a significant factor.

  11. Time to take next step - Murtypublished at 13:58

    Celtic v Rangers (14:30)

Speaking to Rangers TV, manager Graeme Murty: “I can’t wait – I think I’m the proudest man in the stadium. To be here to lead the team out on an occasion like this is beyond my wildest dreams, but I want my players to do themselves justice – if they do that then we can have a good day.

“It’s a different balance to the team, making sure we pay our opponents the respect they deserve, but it’s also making sure we get the balance right without the ball. With the ball we can cause anyone problems, I just want to change it slightly without the ball and hopefully with an extra body in the middle of the pitch can help us do that.

“[Josh Windass] was very close to making the line-up, it’s a tactical thing as well, having someone like him, Jason Cummings and Kenny Miller on the bench, we’ve got difference-makers from the bench should we need them. It was just too soon to start Josh.

“I have challenged the players to make the next step. In the games against Celtic since I’ve been in charge, we’ve been close, arguably we could’ve won the games but we didn’t, we haven’t managed to take the points in the league games.

“I think we’re ready to take the next step, but it’s up to us to go and do it.”

  14. Celtic relaxed and focused - Rodgerspublished at 13:50

    Celtic v Rangers (14:30)

Speaking to BBC Scotland, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers: “First and foremost you have to defend well, you have to be aggressive and stay compact as a team. Then when you have the ball you have the opportunity to play and we always want to dominate the ball and attack.

“It should be a great game. All the ones I’ve been involved in, this being my 10th, they’ve always had an edge to them and today will be no different.

“You get to a semi-final and you want to get to the final – whoever the opponent is, it’s always a big game. Of course, when it’s against one of your biggest rivals there’s that extra edge to it.

“We go into the game relaxed but focused.

“When I arrived here there wasn’t a good feeling about Hampden for various reasons, but certainly our mentality coming into the game, since that first League Cup final win against Aberdeen, has been very positive. The pitch is good here, it’s nice and big and suits our football.

“Every game you play for Celtic is a pressure game. We try to redirect that flow of pressure. The players have already won the League Cup, we’re in a good position in the league to hopefully close that up over the next five games and we have the opportunity to win the semi-final – and of course that’s what we want to do."

Goals from Callum McGregor and a Scott Sinclair penalty saw Celtic book their place in the Scottish Cup final last season at Rangers' expense.

In April 2016, Rangers secured a Scottish Cup final against Hibernian following a pulsating semi-final against their Old Firm rivals.

Kenny Miller and Barrie McKay both netted, with Erik Sviatchenko and Tom Rogic on target for Celtic.

Rangers won 5-4 on penalties, with Rogic blazing the vital spot kick high and wide.

Former Celtic goalkeeper on BBC Sportsound

"Stuart Armstrong missing is a blow. He'd be a blow for any team but I think it's a blow for Celtic in terms of how they'd like to play on this big pitch.

"His runs with and without the ball are a critical part in how Celtic can open teams up. When he's not in the team, then it becomes a bit more predictable in front of a solid, packed defence."
