An outstanding result for Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

Lyon had won all their previous competitive games this season and were the more threatening team, but the English side held firm to prevent them scoring an away goal.

Nick Cushing's side can be confident going into the second leg in France.

The fresh legs of Claire Emslie runs down the left and holds the ball up well for Manchester City.

Her pass doesn't come off but it wastes some crucial seconds.

Three minutes of added time indicated, and we've already had a minute of that.

Centre-back Griedge M'Bock Bathy has a go from range for Lyon but it's a pea-roller and easily saved.

Karen Bardsley has kept her best save until last.

Wendie Renard crosses for Amandine Henry, whose header is somehow kept out by the diving stop of the England keeper.

Can anyone make themselves a hero for the hosts?

Camille Abily has just come on for Lyon but wastes another great opportunity for Lyon.

Ada Hegerberg heads the ball into her path but she doesn't connect properly with the ball and Karen Bardsley is there again to save fairly comfortably.

Lyon are beginning to shoot from range regularly, which shows how much Manchester City have frustrated them.

Having said that they look the most likely team to find a late breakthrough here...

Camille Abily replaces Dzsenifer Marozsan for Lyon, the French side's final change.

Lyon's Lucy Bronze stings the hands of Karen Bardsley from range, but it's a regulation stop.

Great last-gasp defending by Demi Stokes prevents an almost certain Lyon goal.

The low cross comes in and with a Lyon player lurking behind, the England full-back scoops the ball out for a corner.

Jennifer Beattie heads the corner down to Nikita Parris, but she snatches at the volley and it flies over.

The England winger had more time than she thought.

To put this tie into context, Lyon have won all 28 of their competitive games so far this season, scoring 173 goals and letting in just five.

Manchester City are having a good spell at the moment, Jill Scott winning a corner for the hosts.

Lyon have had a series of free-kicks and corners and Karen Bardsley bravely dives at the feet of Ada Hegerberg to stop her tapping in from a couple of yards out.

The French side have made a second change, Delphine Cascarino on for Amel Majri.

Still no substitutions for Manchester City.

I realise I'm tempting fate here, but a goalless draw would represent a great result for Manchester City.

To not concede an away goal would be a massive boost, and Nick Cushing's side could go to France and play on the break in an attempt to snatch one on the counter.

Meanwhile Steph Houghton is down for the hosts, holding her head.

It's brilliant to have two English semi-finalists and it's so good for the WSL. We really want the best quality league in the world and I genuinely think we're up there.

I really hope everyone is shouting for Manchester City and Chelsea later on. To have an all-English final would be brilliant, but just to have just one of them in there would be brilliant too.

She does well to keep her effort down but Sarah Bouhaddi gets down easily to keep it out.

Nikita Parris wants a penalty after a challenge by Lyon's Griedge Mbock in the box, but replays show the defender won the ball cleanly.

The resulting Manchester City corner is poor and lands on the roof of the net.

Demi Stokes has gone in the book for Manchester City, their first booking of this Champions League semi-final first leg.
