Summary

  • Bale's incredible overhead kick and two Karius howlers for Real Madrid's three goals

  • Liverpool's Salah off injured with suspected dislocated shoulder

  • Real Madrid win third consecutive title and 13th overall

  1. 'Karius mistakes are with him for life'published at 23:29 British Summer Time 26 May 2018

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand speaking on BT Sport:"I'd have gone off on a stretcher [if I'd tried Gareth Bale's bicycle kick]. Zidane's was great but that one from Gareth Bale... we were sat here gobsmacked.

"There'll be kids who say 'I was here' when they remember that goal from Bale. It makes people just jump out of their seats."

Ex-Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson on BBC Radio 5 live: "This is a great achievement, but no, this Real Madrid is not one of the great sides. Not as the good as the Barcelona side with Xavi, Andres Iniesta, and Lionel Messi, it wasn't and isn't as good as that."

Ex Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard speaking on BT Sport: "On a human level you can feel sadness for Loris Karius.

"That's with him for life now. Mistakes like this are not for this level, the Champions League final. The first one, which kind of changed the momentum of the game, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"It's a horrible moment for him. he needs some big support from his team-mates now. He didn’t mean that but it’s cost them the game."

Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard speaking on BT Sport: "I’ve won one and lost one. You don’t remember the ones you lose. At the end of the day those two mistakes have been pivotal to the result.

"Liverpool have played well tonight. Losing Mo Salah had a psychological effect on everyone and Madrid came good from there.

"We spoke about experience before the game, know-how on the big stage and the Madrid players being more switched on. The first goal is a keeper in a rush.

"It's a rush of blood to the head, all he had to do was stay calm and he's made a mistake and been punished."

  15. 'Liverpool need better game management'published at 23:03 British Summer Time 26 May 2018

    Real Madrid 3-1 Liverpool

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I would like them to be able to see the game over the line, to manage the game. If you invite fouls you stop rhythm of the opposition, and that is what Real do. You detest it when Sergio Ramos goes down easily and his antics, but that is where our game is, where football is.
