John Stones was asked abut England's strength at set pieces after it was his header that set up Harry Kane's opener against Tunisia - all his own work this time. Panama seemed too interesting in dragging Harry Maguire around to notice Stones arriving unmarked.

England had actually been quite sloppy up to that point. No better way to sharpen themselves up.

ThatGuyB: John Stones, take a bow lad! That header was perfect! Great goal.

Paul Lummis: I think that Panama forgot that there was going to be a ball involved in the play there.

Mark Shelton: Panama you've just been Stoned. 1-0. Get in England.

    England 1-0 Panama

You have to wonder what was going through the collective minds of that Panamanian defence. The referee stopped the corner from being taken on at least two occasions as they were all holding Harry Kane and Harry Maguire - and then when it did come in nobody picked up John Stones at all.

Hope Harry Maguire gets the assist for that goal, getting the whole Panama defence to give him a cuddle.

A hairy moment from Kyle Walker as he has to slide in and make a last-ditch clearance. This is not over yet - far from it.

As it stands though England are in the last 16.

  6. 'England look really strong at set pieces'published at 13:10 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    England 1-0 Panama

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

England were tightly marked but they look really strong at set pieces. It's a great header by Stones into the bottom corner and the keeper has no chance. They are in control now and they don't have to chase the game.

  7. 'A super header'published at 13:10 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    England 1-0 Panama

    Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC One

Forget the grappling, he got free and that is a super header. He guides it down into the bottom corner. That will do him the world of good as he has been in and out of the Manchester City team. Great start for England.

    England 1-0 Panama

Ooooh that's a poor challenge from Armando Cooper, who is now banned for the final game of the group. He wanted to play in the NBA as a kid and that tackle was as graceful as something performed by Shaq.

    Shocker.

    England 1-0 Panama

You all laughed when Steve McClaren said earlier this morning that England can win the World Cup just by scoring from set-pieces.

Another excellent start for Gareth Southgate's side.

    England score from corners!

What nonsense defending in the end as John Stones is left totally free to power in his first international goal!

Kieran Trippier is going to win the golden ball for assists at this rate...

    England 0-0 Panama

The referee warns about holding - and then they all do it anyway. Harry Maguire goes down before it's even taken.

    England 0-0 Panama

    Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC One

I think the three points form the first game is huge to be able to be more patient in this game. When you draw the first game you think you need to get this game done early.

  13. 'England have started too slowly'published at 13:07 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    England 0-0 Panama

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Panama will not get a better chance. By the way Godoy shaped up, you thought he was going to side-foot it in the corner, but it goes high and wide. England have started too slowly. They have got to settle down and move the ball quicker.

    England 0-0 Panama

Kyle Walker brings England over halfway, it's a touch slow in the build-up. That heat and Panama's shape won't be helping. Kieran Trippier wins a corner though.

Edward Taylor: England conceded a penalty for less than that in the first game and this time there is no VAR review and nothing is given.

Kevin Surridge: What’s the difference between that challenge and Kyle Walkers challenge that resulted in a penalty?

Peter David Smith: Did I miss something? Wasn’t that a stonewall penalty?

  16. Postpublished at 5 mins

    England 0-0 Panama

That was an eye-opener for England. An opening for Panama, who are having a good minute here. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is overly physical in the midfield and gives away a free-kick. Settle.

  17. CLOSE!published at 5 mins

    England 0-0 Panama

Harry Kane heads the free-kick away and Edgar Barcenas has the first shot of the day, 40 yards out and about 20 yards over.

Jesse Lingard then gives the ball away and there's a chance on the break for Panama, but Anibal Godoy slices wide!

  18. 'Damage limitation for Panama'published at 13:03 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    England 0-0 Panama

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

The key is the tempo, an it's about getting the first goal early. Panama look like they are playing a back six and it will be damage limitation for them.

England give away a soft free-kick now.

No official water breaks but England's players straight across to the technical area to take on lots of fluids during a break after Jesse Lingard takes a knock to the head.
