  1. goal

GOAL - England 4-0 Panamapublished at 40 mins

    John Stones

There's a VAR check for offside but the goal stands!

England look like scoring at every set-piece and they have another. Jordan Henderson puts the cross in, Harry Kane heads it down, Raheem Sterling has an effort saved and John Stones is there to head the loose ball into the roof of the net.

    Two for Stones! Remarkable.

England cruising, Panama bruising. Another free-kick, Kieran Trippier lines it up.

  3. 'Class goal'published at 13:38 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    England 3-0 Panama

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

That was a class goal by Jesse Lingard. He picks it up outside the box and then changes pace. He uses the defender to bend it round him and the goalkeeper cannot get anywhere near it. What a goal.

  4. 'A wonderful goal'published at 13:38 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    England 3-0 Panama

    Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC One

He has been England's best player by a mile and that is a wonderful goal. Precision, calmness, and great feet just before. He has great awareness of the players around him.

    Enjoy this while you can.

England had only scored more than two goals in a World Cup match once since Gary Lineker's hat-trick in 1986 before this afternoon.

  7. goal

GOAL - England 3-0 Panamapublished at 36 mins

    Jesse Lingard

Oh yes! That's what he can do! Jesse Lingard announces himself on the world stage with a really very good World Cup goal indeed.

He plays a one-two with Raheem Sterling, takes a look and then plants a curler from 25 yards into the top corner.

A bit Paul Scholes v Tunisia in 98 that one.

    Beauty!

  8. Postpublished at 35 mins

    England 2-0 Panama

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is on a booking and goes into another fairly hefty tackle - he won the ball but that was a bit nervy. Not the best start from the Chelsea youngster.

  9. 'Totally ill-disciplined'published at 13:34 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    England 2-0 Panama

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer in Nizhny Novgorod

England are totally in control while Panama, one or two attacking flashes apart, are looking totally ill-disciplined. As well as building on their superiority, England must avoid getting dragged into the silly stuff by Panama here. Gareth Southgate will not want any cheap cards.

  10. Postpublished at 34 mins

    England 2-0 Panama

A better five minutes for England who are looking after the ball nicely. Jordan Henderson dropping into the defence to conduct play. He frees Ashley Young with a cracking ball over the top but he can't quite keep it alive.

John Smith: Can someone please explain what Raheem Sterling brings to the team? Popular in the dressing room does not win matches.

Ben Clarkson: There's no goodwill left for Panama. Underdogs always come out looking well in tournaments as long as they just give it a good crack and don't resort to this kind of play. The sooner they go home the better.

Adam Barron: Refreshing to see England enjoying playing their football, best attitude to have.

  12. CLOSE!published at 32 mins

    England 2-0 Panama

England look undefendable at set-pieces for some reason in Russia. Kieran Trippier lands another free-kick on the head of Harry Maguire but his lofted header this time lands on the roof of the net.

  13. Postpublished at 31 mins

    England 2-0 Panama

Better from Raheem Sterling who drops off to take the ball from Kyle Walker and is chopped down by two players. Panama have conceded eight fouls already.

It's so frustrating how many times Sterling breaks down an England attack by being offside. He has to work on timing his runs.

    England 2-0 Panama

Panama work it well, good ball into the area for Jose Luis Rodriguez on the left-hand side but he has to cross that. He goes for a speculative-at-best shot and can only shank it harmlessly behind.

  16. 'Frustrating start for Sterling'published at 13:28 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    England 2-0 Panama

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

All of the talk ahead of the game was around Sterling, and he has not got into the game at all. He has been caught offside a couple of times and it's been a frustrating start for him.

Edd Hodson: Not often England are 2-0 up in a major tournament after 20 minutes! In fact does that ever happen?

Theo HV: I’m not used to feeling comfortable and relaxed during an England World Cup match!

Sam Pougher: What a start. My voice is already hoarse from yelling and cheering!

    England 2-0 Panama

Panama keeping the ball well as England back off. They haven't reached the heights of that opening spell against Tunisia but if you can nitpick at 2-0 up you've got to be happy enough.

  19. 'England have been gifted two goals'published at 13:26 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

    England 2-0 Panama

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

England are in total control. Panama had a couple of chances early on but they can't defend. England have been gifted two goals and now they can relax and look after the ball.

  20. Postpublished at 26 mins

    England 2-0 Panama

That second goal has taken some of the stuffing out of Panama, it seems. Raheem Sterling is almost played in over the top but he gives away a free-kick and he hasn't got into the game at all yet.
