    Belgium 1-2 Japan

    Brilliant. Breathless. Belgium.

Eden Hazard leads a counter and finds Kevin de bruyne on the edge, he beats his man and gets a shot away and it's well blocked again. Away for a corner.

They check VAR for a possible handball but no.

    Martin Keown
    Former England defender in Russia

I didn't think Vertonghen meant that initially, but I have to take that back, because it looks like he did. We have to credit the manager for eventually making the change.

    Belgium 1-2 Japan

Japan have been brilliant in this second half, they are asking serious questions of Belgium! Toby Alderweireld has to be sharp to cut out a dangerous cross.

  4. 'Vertonghen got lucky'published at 20:29 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Belgium 1-2 Japan

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

It is dreadful goalkeeping initially. It is an astounding header from Jan Vertonghen, he must be 12 yards out on an acute angle. I don't think he is trying to score, he is trying to head it back in towards the far post. He got lucky.

GOAL - Belgium 1-2 Japanpublished at 69 mins

    Jan Vertonghen

    GAME.

    ON.

Belgium are back in World Cup business with a fluke, after some crazy, crazy goalkeeping and defending! They all count.

Eiji Kawashima comes and punches poorly, Takashi Inui panics and just skies the loose ball a mile into the Russian sky. It drops for Jan Vertonghen, who must be about 15 yards out on the angle, wide on the left of the penalty area, and he sends it dropping, looping into the net.

Did he mean that? He could not care less right now...

Superb from Maya Yoshida, who appears on the blindside to make a superb block and deny Romelu Lukaku what looked like a certain goal!

There's still time for Belgium. Still hope.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 67 mins

    Belgium 0-2 Japan

A very good point from Mr. Emlyn Begley in the BBC Sport office. This is Belgium's golden generation and they are resorting to throwing on Marouane Fellaini and Nacer Chadli to chase a World Cup miracle.

  9. 'Belgium being torn to ribbons'published at 20:23 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Belgium 0-2 Japan

    Martin Keown
    Former England defender in Russia

Japan just get good numbers everywhere and they are very good tactically. They are busy bees all over the pitch and everyone knows their role. Belgium are being torn to ribbons.

Thibaut Courtois would have saved that if he was 10cm taller.

Almost a third! Thibaut Courtois kicks a dangerous cross clear before Marouane Fellaini comes on for Belgium.

    Plan B?

  12. Postpublished at 63 mins

    Belgium 0-2 Japan

Belgium need at least two goals in the final half an hour. Settle in, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. This could be brilliant.

Like a good Test match all three results are in play here.

Wow, nobody has come from two goals down to win a kockout game in the World Cup since West Germany beat Bobby Moore and co in 1970...

    GOT TO BE! NO!

Romelu Lukaku heads wide from just a few yards out. That was a sitter!

    Gerd Muller would have bagged.

Martinez needs to solve the problem, and if he needs to make a change, he should instantly know what to do. He has got the players on the pitch but the tactics are really effecting his team.

This is very England-Iceland from Belgium, they are all over the shop! A cross comes in and Axel Witsel almost heads into his own net, it drops just wide.

What have you got in the tank Roberto Martinez? The man who masterminded one of the great FA Cup shocks with Wigan is now facing one of his own.

A Cupset is not so fun when it's the other way round...
