    Spain 1-1 Russia

Russia taking all sorts of shots here. Kitchen sink, taps, plug, pipes, U-bend. Their subs are off the bench, rallying the crowd. Mostly, this game has been awful. It's been strangely captivating, though.

Funnily enough, Spain look miles more dangerous with two men up front. Red shirts all over the Russia box....

For once, Russia have the chance to get it somewhere near to the Spain area, but the free-kick from halfway is awful, a kick for touch.

It was a lovely bit of skill from Rodrigo to sell the dummy and then the step over gives him room for the shot. But he didn't strike his effort with any power and it didn't really test Akinfeev.

Where has Rodrigo been all day? The first time in two hours that a Spain player runs at the Russia defence and there is chaos. Dummy, down the right, into the area, but the shot is straight at Igor Akinfeev.

If Russia get much deeper, they will be behind Igor Akinfeev. The home fans still have the energy to whistle and jeer when Spain have the ball. Huge cheer when Akinfeev claims a cross.

I'll be honest, even the live text team is getting ready for penalties. Andres Iniesta gets a hint of room, but his shot is blocked.

    Cesc Fabregas

I think we need to take more risks. I haven't seen any changes in the way we have approached the game from the start. I still don't know why we are playing with two holding midfielders.

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 1 July 2018

First period done and dusted. Spain's tactic of not trying to score is, unsurprisingly, not paying off.

From the free-kick, Gerard Pique heads straight at the keeper.

Last minute of the first period. Ooofff! Aleksandr Golovin straight through Isco. Studs, two feet. Lucky not to go in the book.

I would put another striker on for Spain and play two up top. You are dominating possession.

It's hard to overstate the magnitude of this Russia defensive effort. That back three will need carrying off the turf. Spain ready their final change.

    Spain 1-1 Russia

Russia built momentum off the first two games. They made changes for the Uruguay game and were well beaten but they've got the whole country right behind them.

More noise from the home fans. Their players need the help. They are clinging on. You wouldn't want to be a Spanish player taking a penalty in this atmosphere.

When Spain find a pocket of space, it is quickly filled by men in white. Isco and Iago Aspas run into each other. Marco Asensio tries his luck, but it's straight at Igor Akinfeev.
