Mr Singh: Stevie G achieved nothing at Liverpool nothing with England. In all his years at Liverpool he couldn't make them great. Now he's going to try it with Rangers as a manager? Lol. Congrats Celtic for winning next season league and cup titles.

Ruckedout: Phew, narrow escape for Chester as he was linked to them.

John Louis: Game on Stevie!! You need to spin some magic like Harry Potter. Like Pedro Caixinha, the first 15 games will be critical.

Charlieboy: This is either an inspired appointment or the biggest mistake in football management history.

  6. 'Gerrard knows the pressures' - Adampublished at 17:05

"It can do [go badly wrong] but listening to what Steven was saying in his press conference he’s assured them what he wants and he was like that as a player," says former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam.

"He knows what he wants to do, he was composed and calm and he looks as though he is looking forward to it. It’s a big challenge but one I think he’s relishing.

"There’s going to be an injection of money which is badly needed - there’s not going to be hundreds of millions like the Premier League in England but there’ll be enough for him to bring better quality players in and that’s what it needs.

"His previous career as a player and his authority that he has will help him attract good players who will want to go and play for him which is an added bonus and it’s a massive statement for the club and Scottish football.

"I don’t think he’ll just look to young players, I think he’ll look to experienced players that know the game, who have probably played there or understand what it’s like to play for a big club.

"He knows that. He has played at the highest level at one of the biggest clubs in the world at Liverpool, he knows the pressures that will come to him, it’s just a different situation. He’s a manager now.

Charlie Adam: "If you get the right quality of player money is not an issue"

"If you get the right quality of player money is not an issue, going and playing for a club like Rangers with the prestige of it.

"Different circumstances, Gary Neville was going to a different country as in a different language for the players and it was a short term thing. Steven Gerrard has got a four-year contract.

"He’ll have a plan and right people around him and it’s up to him and his back room staff and Mark Allen now to get the right players in going forward.“

lil_keen_swift: Best of luck to him but I can’t say I think it’s a good idea. I’d be happy for him to prove me wrong though.

afz123: Phenomenal player! Will have to wait and see if his management career meets the same fate. Good luck!

Foxes: Should have got Eddie Howe in, but then there is no chance of taking a good manager from the EPL... I have a feeling Gerrard will do well, though.

Of Gary McAllister, who was a team-mate of Gerrard's at Liverpool and also played for and managed Leeds and Coventry, the new Rangers boss said: "He's a long-time friend of mine.

"I have huge respect for Gary and he ticks the box where, maybe I'm not the most experienced manager right now, but he's been in the game for a very long time and as a partnership I feel will be very strong.

"He will be a rock and a very big support and as soon as I asked him it was a 'yes' straight away.

"I learned so much from Gary and I couldn't ask for anyone better to take on this challenge with me."

  11. 'Gerrard has incredible quality' - Rodgerspublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is looking forward to locking horns with "ultra-professional" Steven Gerrard at Rangers next season.

Gerrard will become the manager at Ibrox this summer, having signed a four-year deal.

The former England captain's 17-year Liverpool career included three seasons working under Rodgers.

"He had incredible quality as a player and that level of professionalism is what made him great," said Rodgers.

"I'm sure he will take those attributes into his management.

"I haven't spoken to him, I left him be when I saw he was linked with it, he will obviously have his own thoughts on it.

"But I am delighted for him because he has obviously had an incredible playing career, wanted to manage, wanted to coach and now he gets the opportunity to do that."

More from Steven Gerrard after agreeing to become Rangers manager...

"I can't do anything about having no experience. There is only one way to get experience - to believe you have the right characteristics to take on a challenge and confront it.

"In football if you're working under pressure, you're in a good place. I've missed that pressure of fighting for three points.

"I know there will be a lot of pressure and a lot of scrutiny but that's what I love about football."

Tom McCarron: Get ready for an exodus of loans heading to Scotland; Ojo, Danny Ward, Kent, Ejaria and Woodburn. Are Liverpool U23s going to pip Celtic to the title next year?

Ben Clarkson: All Gerrard has to do to be considered a success is narrow the huge gulf in quality between Rangers and Celtic and possibly bag a trophy. Nobody expects them to overhaul Celtic immediately, could be a genius move for him.

  17. 'It could be a really good fit' - Klopppublished at 15:55

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "If Stevie thinks it’s the right moment then I’m sure it is the right moment. If he thinks he’s ready then he’s ready,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com in reacting to the news.

"How I know it, Rangers are a big club in a little bit of a difficult moment still but a much better moment than a few years ago. It could be a really good fit, it could be nice, coming closer to Celtic.

“I’m pretty sure Celtic supporters don’t think, ‘Thank God, Steven Gerrard’. They think, ‘Wow, Steven Gerrard’. That can always be a sign.

"Stevie is one of the best midfielders ever. Now he wants to be a manager. He has the passion for football and the knowledge about football. All the rest is to learn; I’m sure he learned a lot in the last year.

"Stability is the key and I want to give these supporters an exciting team and a winning team and one to be proud of," he said.

"I need to get my feet in the door and teeth into the job before I work out where we need to improve.

"I'm confident or I wouldn't be sitting in this seat. If I didn't have confidence in myself and my staff and the board I wouldn't have come here.

"In terms of targets, i just want to win football matches. That's my buzz."
