Steven Gerrard concludes his introductory media conference as Rangers manager with a message to the club's supporters: "let's go..."
Rangers chairman Dave King says that he sees "advantages" of Steven Gerrard coming into the manager's role "clean" and able to "stamp his own authority" and impose his style of management.
Gerrard says Rangers spurned an opportunity to beat Celtic in the recent Old Firm derby at Ibrox - when 10-man Celtic won 3-2.
The new Rangers manager says he is relishing the prospect of challenging Celtic, referencing the fact his upbringing helped him to face challenges head-on.
Gerrard says his contract begins on 1 June and that he knows there are games left to play this season.
He wants Rangers players to come to work "with a smile on their face".
Gerrard says the "excitement levels are high". He confirms that Gary McAllister will be his assistant at Ibrox.
The Rangers manager says McAllister "ticks the box" in terms of experience that he perhaps lacks.
McAllister is excited to join the Rangers backroom staff, Gerrard adds.
Dave King says he is "very happy" to appoint someone of Steven Gerrard's character - which has proved more important than his experience or lack thereof.
"The board is delighted with Steven's appointment," adds King.
The Rangers chairman says they are looking at ways of narrowing the funding gap on Premiership champions Celtic.
Steven Gerrard says he hasn't been in touch with former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers - now at Celtic - since his decision to join Rangers.
"Me and Brendan are fine," Gerrard tells the media conference. "I believe that I can make the fans happy."
The new Rangers manager says it will take time for him to assess the squad before deciding on how to best drive the club forward.
"I'm confident that we can do well. I just want to win football matches. That's my buzz and what I want to do here."
Steven Gerrard says he knows the role of Rangers manager will bring scrutiny and pressure. "I'm up for the challenge and will do my best. I want to be a leader for them [the supporters] and I can't wait to be out there for them."
Steven Gerrard says the board's ambition matches his; he does not want to divulge what has been discussed in private meetings.
However, he is relishing the prospect of his first taste of management. "There's only one way of gaining experience is to take a challenge head on..."
"Pressure isn't a bad thing. If you're working under pressure then you're in a good place."
Steven Gerrard says he has been lucky enough to come to Glasgow to sample the Old Firm derby atmosphere.
He describes the decision to become Rangers manager as "a no-brainer".
Rangers chairman Dave King thanks the media for gathering at short notice, with the club "incredibly excited" to welcome Steven Gerrard's as their new manager.
King says Rangers believe the club were right to take their time to make the right appointment.
Steven Gerrard takes his seat inside Ibrox Stadium ahead of the media conference to announce his appointment.
The camera flashes and whirr of pictures of the new Rangers manager as the battery of reporters prepare to question the new man at the helm.

BlessingMuseki: Bold move for #stevengerrard, external and good lucky to him. People are saying just because he was a great player doesn't mean he will be a great manager. True. But it doesn't mean he will be rubbish either. Look at Zidane.
Klopposphere: One good thing about #Gerrard, external going to #RangersFC, external is that people will stop calling for him to become the new assistant coach at #LFC, external, despite there being little sign he has the tactical acumen to work at that level. #bbcgerrard
