Quite often the first leg of a play-off match is tight and tentative. None of that between Coventry and Notts tonight.

It was a cracker and had plenty of talking points.

Coventry goalscorer Marc McNulty told Sky Sports:

"You see them given and sometimes you don't, but it was great to stick the penalty away.

"I'd picked where I was going and I never changed my mind. I could have had a couple of goals, I hit the post and they also defended a header I had well.

"That was unfortunate but these things happen."

Notts County full-back Dan Jones told Sky Sports:

"Coventry came out fast. They hit the post and we rode our luck but we defended brilliantly. There was a lot of drama, especially at the end with the penalty which I thought was a little dubious. I thought he [Matt Tootle] won the ball but you just have to get on with it."

And that's that.

A wonderfully entertaining match, which ends in huge controversy as Coventry snatch a draw from a penalty that simply didn't look like one at all.

Marc McNulty or Coventry won't mind about that, though...

We are over the allotted amount of injury time. Notts on the attack.

Former England and Manchester United man Alan Smith will get the briefest of run-outs for the visitors. He is on for the injured Jonathan Forte. Notts are hanging on.

Notts goalscorer Jonathan Forte is clutching his hamstring. He walks along for a few yards looking concerned and then falls to the floor.

That must be his night done - and possibly his season.

Will we get an extra-time winner?

Notts boss Kevin Nolan is absolutely seething. His post-match chat will be lively to say the least.

Even more so if Coventry grab a winner. Jonson Clarke-Harris pokes the ball wide after some great work by Marc McNulty out wide

Coventry are pressing for a winner. Notts have lost their heads a bit. They are furious with the penalty decision.

Notts looked comfortable and that looks controversial.

Tom Bayliss goes over in the area under the challenge of Matt Tootle, who looked to get the ball fairly cleanly, and Coventry have a spot-kick.

Can Coventry find a leveller?

A wasteful ball into the box by Jack Grimmer. He plays a hopeful cross in from the Coventry right, but it's easy pickings for Notts goalkeeper Adam Collin as it floats gently into his arms.

Jonathan Forte has been mightily impressive for the Magpies tonight - even without the goal.

His experience has been crucial and he has worked himself relentlessly. The striker chases back, wins possession and wastes some precious time.

Kevin Nolan will appreciate the "game management".

Liam Noble has had to cover plenty of ground tonight, but he can rest up for the closing stages. Michael O'Connor replaces him in the Notts midfield.

Notts then counter and Dominic Hyam is left with no option but to tug back Jonathan Forte. A booking but the free-kick is easily cleared.

A great run by Jack Grimmer down the Coventry right brings a mistimed sliding challenge from Jorge Grant.

He is booked and from the free-kick a header on target is deflected over by Dan Jones...

The rain finally seems to have stopped here and the pitch is now throwing up less surface water, but you still have to give credit to the two teams for the way they have kept their heads and at least tried to play football on it.

And also to referee Gavin Ward for apparently making a few allowances for the conditions.

It has been a belting game for the 17,404 fans who have braved it - even if the majority of them wearing sky blue are currently a bit unhappy!

Coventry look to make something happen.

Teenage striker Jordan Ponticelli comes on. Twenty-year-old midfielder Jordan Shipley comes off.

Coventry's Marc McNulty now threatens to get in behind after a lovely pass by Tom Davies.

The Scottish striker is crowded out, though. Notts have nullified him well after his superb start to the match when they couldn't get near him and he hit the post with a low shot.
