  1. Tasty Brazil benchpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

    Brazil v Croatia (15:00 BST)

The Brazil bench looks almost as tasty as their starting XI.

Manchester United target Fred, Neymar and local hero Roberto Firmino all start as substitutes along with, Ederson, Fagner, Marquinhos, Geromel, Filipe-Luis and Taison.

Talking of Neymar, what shape will he be in and what shape are Brazil in? Two big questions ahead of the World Cup.

The world's most expensive player is not starting this afternoon but is poised to make his long-awaited return from injury from the bench.

The Paris St-Germain star has been out injured since February 25 when he fractured a metatarsal and sprained his ankle in a Ligue 1 match against Marseille. Does he hold the key to Brazil's hopes in Russia?

Had things worked out a little differently Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may have been strutting his stuff for England yesterday at Wembley.

As it is, the knee ligament injury he sustained against AS Roma in the Champions league semi-final means he's popped down to his home ground to take a watching brief this afternoon.

No doubt he'll be hoping to see Neymar....As are we all.

Anyone remember Vedran Corluka? I'll give you a clue he used to play for Manchester City and Tottenham. Still only 32 - yes I thought he was a lot older as well - Corluka plays at the heart of the Croatia defence alongside Dejan Lovren, who is of course on familiar territory this afternoon, at Anfield.

The Croatia coach, Zlatko Dalic has got plenty of experience in his side - Corluka, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic have all hit the 90 cap marker.

Croatia XI: Subasic, Vrsaljko, Lovren, Corluka, Vida, Badelj, Rakitic, Perisic, Modric, Rebic, Kramaric.

Here's the Brazil team which starts at Anfield.

A mix of pragmatism in midfield and dynamism up front? Looks decent to me...

Good afternoon. It's a lovely sun-kissed day in the North West of England, perfect conditions to welcome some samba style football to Anfield where Brazil take on Croatia in a re-run of the opening game of the last World Cup.
