Even in the Championship, Lee Peltier had a reputation for receiving yellow cards early in matches, such is the right-back's aggressive, physical approach.

So he'll be disappointed that it was a mere push on Ryan Fraser which earned him a caution on this occasion - just three minutes into the game.

  2. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Cardiff

Joe Bennett is called into action to clear a low Bournemouth pass into the box. That's the first time the hosts have made significant ground forward so far this afternoon.

Both sets of fans are in fine voice. Clearly they're just as pleased as I am that the football season is well and truly under way.

  3. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Cardiff

Decent chance for Cardiff as somehow they send a cross into the path of Bobby Reid who's waiting in the box, but he just can't quite get the right connection on it to send it goalbound.

What a debut that would have been for the former Bristol City man if it had gone in.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 3 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Cardiff

A high level of passing from both sides in the opening stages of this match with Cardiff making the most of their limited time with the ball so far.

In the meantime, Lee Peltier picks up a yellow card for a foul on Ryan Fraser.

With Eddie Howe believing this could be the strongest squad he's ever had at Bournemouth, improving on last season's respectable 12th-placed finish is a realistic target.

Their transfer business certainly spoke volumes about how upwardly mobile they are these days, with Jefferson Lerma arriving for a club record fee and Diego Rico choosing the Cherries over Borussia Dortmund.

Cardiff's modest dealings have done little to dissuade the many who view them as relegation favourites, but Neil Warnock's admitted he never gets tired of proving people wrong.

Warnock says getting the Bluebirds up via a record eighth promotion was the greatest achievement of his career, keeping them there would surely top the lot though.

Of the three promoted teams, Cardiff City have shelled out an awful lot less on players this summer than their rivals.

Fulham and Wolves have spent more than £150m between them but Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock isn't green with envy at the cash being splashed.

Forward Bobby Reid, pictured, is one of a number of signings, but it's fair to say the club have been more financially coy than some clubs.

"While it's good to have money, sometimes you forget what has actually got you there," Warnock said. "You change everything."

"It does not necessarily mean it's going to work. We don't have that luxury anyhow, we have spent it wisely we think looking to build the club for the future, really."

Cardiff City return to the Premier League in a far happier and more harmonious state than the mess they found themselves in when they were last in the top flight during the 2013-14 season.

Gone are the constant controversies and sense of division created by owner Vincent Tan's switch to red shirts. Now the club is unified, back in blue and, with Neil Warnock in charge, they have a figurehead who has revitalised the entire club.

It's been a prudent summer for the Bluebirds, spending less than £40m, as opposed to their free-spending fellow promoted sides Fulham and Wolves, who have splashed out on almost £150m worth of signings.

And in Bournemouth they face a now relatively established Premier League outfit who will be looking to build on last season's creditable 12th-placed finish.

Opening days have not been very fruitful for AFC Bournemouth in their three seasons in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe's side are yet to kick off their Premier League campaign with a win, but could today be the day to rid themselves of that burden?

On the other hand, Cardiff City have never won a top-flight opening day fixture away from home.

Could the omens be in the Cherries' favour?

I don't know about you but it feels like five minutes since the World Cup came to an end and now here we are, kicking off another season in the Premier League.

This man is back in the big time. After leading Cardiff City to a Premier League return in his first full season in charge, Neil Warnock's Bluebirds have made the trip to the south coast.

But can they take three points back to the Welsh capital?
