    Huddersfield Town 0-0 Chelsea

Marcos Alonso comes inside on to his right foot and floats a ball to the back post but it is easily dealt with by Ben Hamer. No real excitement in this one so far, but then again there's only been 10 minutes gone so no need to panic.

  2. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Huddersfield Town 0-0 Chelsea

Not only do we have some missing grass at one of the ends because of a Little Mix concert, we also have some extra white lines still visible on the pitch because of the rugby league, as they share the stadium with Huddersfield Giants.

    All a bit shambolic really.

    Huddersfield Town 0-0 Chelsea

Goalkeeper Ben Hamer has twice given the ball away with some dodgy distribution on his Huddersfield debut after moving on a free transfer from Leicester.

The second of those misplaced passes gifts Alvaro Morata a chance but he slots it wide, although it wouldn't have counted as he was offside anyway.

As expected, it is a back four for Chelsea, who go for a 4-3-3 formation, ditching the three at the back and wing backs that took them to the Premier League title two seasons ago under Antonio Conte.

Sarri coming in is good news for David Luiz, bad news, you feel, for Victor Moses.

  9. Lawro's match predictionpublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

Huddersfield Town v Chelsea (15:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
Ex-Liverpool defender and BBC football expert

Huddersfield basically swam the channel to stay up last season and I think the next few months are going to be a similar story for them.

I know the Terriers have strengthened their squad, but they are not going to come out and play open attacking football, and I think they probably already know they will be fighting to keep their head above the water again. This might be a good time for them to play Chelsea, who are in a mess at the moment.

The Blues at least managed to replace goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is on his way to Real Madrid, but they look short up front with Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud.

For their sake, I hope it does not quickly turn into a season where, a few weeks in, Eden Hazard starts to wonder why he did not also leave for Real.

It is going to take their new manager Maurizio Sarri a while to settle in and sort things out, which is why I don't think they will finish in the top four, but I am still backing them to win this game.

    Lawro's prediction: 0-2

  10. 'A decent chance for Huddersfield today'published at 14:56 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

Huddersfield Town v Chelsea (15:00 BST)

    Guy Mowbray
    Match of the Day commentator

Huddersfield almost surely won't finish above Chelsea this season, but they have a decent chance to beat them to start it.

Since fighting to stay up (aided by a famous 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge) it has been a settled summer of steady business for Town.

With a few in and a few out, their squad looks marginally (not massively) better than for their first Premier League campaign.

I expect Chelsea to be better than last time too, but maybe not from the off.

Antonio Conte's protracted departure and the late return of World Cup stars make it likely that Maurizio Sarri will need time to make his mark. If and when he does, the Blues should be fun to watch.

  11. McNulty's season predictions - Chelseapublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Last season: Fifth. This season: Fifth

There's a real element of the unknown about predicting Chelsea's fortunes this season as Maurizio Sarri takes over from fellow Italian Antonio Conte as the latest incumbent in the managerial chair.

Sarri will add colour, character and attacking football at Stamford Bridge and Jorginho from Napoli is a high-class operator who was also at one time coveted by Manchester City.

The retention of Eden Hazard has been crucial while there will be much focus on new keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga - bought for a world record £71m from Athletic Bilbao.

Mateo Kovacic (pictured) has not flourished at Real Madrid but is a genuine talent - and will Ross Barkley's career actually threaten to come out of cold storage? It could be a lot of fun watching Chelsea this season and don't put it past them to mount a serious top-four challenge and win (as they usually do) a trophy.

The days when a goalkeeper's only responsibility was saving shots has long gone.

Chelsea have spent a world record £71m on Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The 23-year-old former Athletic Bilbao man makes his debut at Huddersfield this afternoon. As is usual, the keepers came out to warm up early.

Kepa spent over five minutes, controlling the ball with his feet and playing passes, short, long, straight, angled.

    Looks quite tidy.

  13. Big spenderspublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

Two of the top three most expensive signings of the summer have come from Chelsea, with £71m going to Atletico Madrid for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and £57m to Napoli for midfielder Jorginho.

    Both start.

Just seeing shots of the Huddersfield pitch, and one end is still a mess after that Little Mix concert.

A shambolic situation for a Premier League side to be in. Shoot from long range when attacking that end will be the advice from both managers.

The Premier League is a global competition, featuring some of the biggest names in the world.

Huddersfield's continued presence in the top flight is a reminder of the English game's roots.

They do have a megastore here. But it is a large Portakabin next to the car park.

Last season: 16th. This season: 17th

I know. I know. Pretty much every pre-season prediction has the Terriers relegated but I'm happy to go against the grain with a gut feeling on this one.

I just think manager David Wagner has fostered a special spirit at a club full of character - and remember how he brought it out when needed with those status-saving draws at Manchester City and Chelsea at the season's end.

I was delighted when they proved me wrong last season. I hope they don't this season.

  17. Success is staying up - Wagnerpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

It's all about staying up this season for Huddersfield, according to boss David Wagner.

"We need to take the experiences from last season into this season, with the feeling that we have a better group in terms of individuals," Wagner said at his news conference before this match.

"We have enough quality, with a Terrier spirit, to be competitive. Our aim is to give ourselves no limits and to try and achieve something. Success will be to secure another season in the Premier League."

OK, you might be asking, why have you just stuck a picture of Little Mix in a football live?

Well, they have caused a bit of a stir at Huddersfield in pre-season after they played a concert at the John Smith's Stadium on 15 July...

... and this was the miserable-looking state of the Huddersfield pitch during a home pre-season friendly against Lyon, 10 days later on 25 July...

Terriers manager David Wagner was understandably furious and after that match said: "This is not satisfactory and not what I expect when we play in the best and biggest competition in the world. It is unacceptable.

“We have some very good people at this club who will take care of this issue. Obviously, someone made a big, big mistake.”

Will there have been some Black Magic to get the pitch back to its best (yes, I did have to Google the name of their songs, honest).

It is rare for a manager to observe what is happening during the pre-match warm-up at first-hand.

But, having said yesterday his job would be more complicated in the early weeks of the season because his appointment was confirmed after Chelsea's players had returned from their summer break, Maurizio Sarri is taking the opportunity to see how his players go about their work.
