  4. 'We controlled the game'published at 19:59 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

    Wolves 2-2 Everton

    Wolves

Speaking to BBC Sport, Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves said: "Everton scored their first goal from a set-piece but we controlled the game by equalising before the second half. After the break we continued to control it but we have to keep working to get better results."

On his goal: "I am very happy to help the team achieve a point but we want to win games, mainly at home."

  5. 'Richarlison will make fans proud'published at 19:58 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

Everton manager Marco Silva to BBC Match of the Day: "I saw fantastic attitude and spirit in our squad. Even with the 10 men we were better. We started to grow during the game.

"Phil Jagielka's red card was a harsh decision. Not only the red card but they scored from the free-kick.

"We changed some things at half-time and did very well in the second half. We suffered together and in the end we had the best chances to score. If someone had to win, it should be our team. But Wolves played well.

"We worked together and helped each other."

On Richarlison: "I don’t have doubts. Even when he doesn’t score he works really hard to help his team. I’m sure the fans will be proud of him. He did very well. He worked hard, which is what I expect from him."

  6. 'The momentum must go on'published at 19:56 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

    Wolves 2-2 Everton

    Wolves

Speaking to BBC Sport, Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo said: "We have character because we came back from a goal down twice, which is not easy.

"Today taught me that we can react to goals but we have a lot to improve. We have always known we have quality but we are in a growing process. It was the first time for a lot of us in the Premier League but we will get better and better.

"It was a good atmosphere and the momentum must go on, everybody has to believe. We can only control our own expectations and the fans must enjoy."

On Ruben Neves: "He is very young so that tells me he has a lot of progress to make in order to get better, but he is also experienced and has played in the Champions League."

On Raul Jimenez: "It was a team effort. Raul scored the equaliser but I think the reaction from the team and the desire was always us - that requires energy and character. Everton reduced the space and they do not concede too many situations, but now it is our job to find solutions."

Everton defender Phil Jagielka was sent off for only the second time in his Premier League career – he is the oldest Englishman (35 years 359 days) to be red carded in the top-flight since Chris Powell (37y 81d) in November 2006.

Everton’s red card was their 90th in the Premier League – more than any other side.

Wolves defender Matt Doherty made his second Premier League appearance – 2,513 days after his first in September 2011. Only two outfield players have had a longer wait for their second appearances – Erik Nevland (3,667) and Darren Pratley (2,835).

Ruben Neves both scored and assisted for Wolves – the last Portuguese player to achieve that in a Premier League game was Nani in April 2012, also against Everton.

Wolves striker Raul Jimenez - a loan signing from Benfica - is only second Mexican to score on his Premier League debut debut

The other was Miguel Layun, also against Everton in a 2-2 draw, for Watford on the opening day of 2015-16.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Everton forward Richarlison said: "I will remember this day for the rest of my life and I’m very happy. I have to thank my colleagues because we had to run double with one player less, so it's a special day for me. I'm very happy to win the man-of-the-match trophy for the first time in my career."

  12. 'Character-building from Everton'published at 19:41 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

    Wolves 2-2 Everton

    Ronny Goodlass
Former Everton winger on BBC Radio Merseyside

We knew it would be difficult for Everton, and it became harder when they went down to 10 men. As a team, we made it tough for Wolves as well and we kept our shape. To keep it at 2-2 is a credit to the lads in a character-building performance.

Charlie: Ruben Neves is incredible and he's only 21.

Paul:Wolves are in for a long season on that performance. Very over hyped.

    Does Paul support Villa/Blues/Albion?

  15. 'I look to Marco like a father'published at 19:33 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

BT Sport have just been talking to two-goal Everton debutant Richarlison too (via a translator).

"It was a very difficult match, we had to run double because we were a man down. One point away is very important.

"I know my responsibilities and what I have to do on the pitch for Marco Silva. I look to Marco like a father, he took me from Brazil to England [Watford]. I'll be grateful for life to Marco."

  16. 'A little bit sad because of the result'published at 19:29 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

Raul Jimenez: "I'm happy for the goal. And a little bit sad because of the result as we deserved more. But that's football. One point in the first game is good."

The first Mexican player I've ever heard trot out the ol' "that's football".

Ruben Neves: "It was a very good Premier League game against a good team. We controlled the game. I think we deserved a little bit more. I'm happy to help the team. We want more, we need to work a little bit more to get a win."

Not bad Everton. The sending off changed the game. Took the ball & the free kick wasn't taken in the right place.

That was fun. Except for the bits where I said Leighton Baines was sent off and Richarlison scored past Jordan Pickford.

Early-season rust. I need to up my game. Thanks for all the angry tweets, I appreciate them.

A draw is probably a fair result here. Richarlison's injury can't be too bad as he's walking freely away from the bench.
