  1. Good omen for Everton?published at 17:26 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

Nuno Espirito Santo and Marco Silva met four times as head coaches during their time in charge of Portuguese sides Rio Ave and Estoril respectively, with every game won by the away team.

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "We cannot control expectations outside, it doesn't affect us.

"We are comfortable and confident with the way we are starting the game. We are ready.

"There is no aim or target position. We are highly motivated to play in the Premier League."

  3. Silva not worried about Richarlison feepublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

Richarlison scored five goals and four assists in his first 13 Premier League appearances for Watford last season - all under Marco Silva - but contributed just one assist and no goals in his subsequent 25 games.

Silva has defended paying an initial £35m on the young Brazilian forward.

"I can speak to you about what happened one year ago when we took Jordan Pickford and everyone was talking about it at that moment.

"Now no-one is talking about his value. The value the club paid to take him here is normal in football. The market now is really difficult.

"If the player will perform well and do the best to achieve our goals at the end no-one will speak about the price."

Everton manager Marco Silva: "The market is difficult and the World Cup year is not easy.

"It's not easy to bring players to Everton either because they ask for lots of money in some moments.

"But I am happy as a coach. We have finalised the market and we are happy with the players here and the players we've brought in."

    And now some Everton ones...

The Toffees have not lost their opening Premier League fixture since 2011, when they suffered a 1-0 defeat to QPR at Goodison Park. Since then they have drawn four and won two.

The Merseysiders have won their last five Premier League games against newly promoted sides without conceding a goal.

Marco Silva is the first manager to take charge of three different clubs in his first three Premier League seasons (when those seasons have run consecutively).

    And some more...

Wolves ended their most recent Premier League season, in 2011-12, with a winless run of 14 games (D4, L10).

Their last top-flight victory came at QPR on 4 February 2012, when Matt Jarvis and Kevin Doyle scored in a 2-1 win.

They lost just two games at Molineux last season, the most recent of which was a 2-0 defeat by Cardiff in January.

The last four winners of the Championship have avoided relegation from the Premier League the following season.

  7. Previous meeting statspublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 11 August 2018

Here are some totally irrelevant stats...

Wolves are winless in the last six league meetings with Everton, losing four, since a 2-1 victory at Molineux in May 2004.

They have scored in just two of their last eight home league games against Everton.

The two sides previously met on the opening weekend in the 1957-58 season, when Wolves went on to win the second of their three top-flight titles.

While for almost every promoted team consolidation is the aim, Wolves' ambitions appear a great deal loftier - and with justification.

It became apparent very quickly last season that they were a Premier League team in waiting, whose burgeoning confidence in possession was destined for a higher status.

They have since recruited more players with genuine international pedigree, and anything lower than a top-10 finish would be a surprise.

Everton are similarly buoyed by their summer recruitment, including the manager they craved - their first goal will be to harness the optimism which their astonishing deadline-day activity has created.

With the calibre of player on show, this should be a truly fascinating opening weekend duel.

Yes, Rui Patricio is wearing the number 11 jersey this season. This is probably an unpopular opinion but I don't mind it.

Wolves hand debuts to four summer signings - Euro 2016 winners Rui Patricio and Joao Moutinho, on-loan Atletico Madrid defender Jonny Castro and Mexico forward Raul Jimenez.

Eight of their players are making Premier League bows - including much-hyped midfielder Ruben Neves.

There are five Portuguese players in their line-up, the previous Premier League record was three by Chelsea.

Wolves: Rui Patricio, Bennett, Coady, Boly, Doherty, Joao Moutinho, Neves, Jonny, Jota, Jimenez, Helder Costa. Subs: Enobakhare, Gibbs-White, John Ruddy, Saiss, Ruben Vinagre, Hause, Leo Bonatini.

Everton had already said their deadline-day signings would not feature, so Richarlison is the sole debutant.

Theo Walcott, Cenk Tosun and Gylfi Sigurdsson all play in a fairly attacking line-up. Former Barcelona left-back Lucas Digne is on the bench.

Everton: Pickford, Coleman, Jagielka, Keane, Baines, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Walcott, Sigurdsson, Richarlison, Tosun. Subs: Holgate, Sandro, Digne, Niasse, Stekelenburg, Davies, Calvert-Lewin.

Wolves, with a load of class players thanks to their links with agent Jorge Mendes, walked the Championship last season with 99 points.

This summer, they have signed Euro 2016 winning duo Rui Patricio and Joao Moutinho, £18m winger Adama Traore, £10m defender Willy Boly (who was there last season on loan), World Cup pair Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker and Atletico Madrid defender Jonny Castro.

Their opponents today are another team who have recruited well this summer.

Everton - with new manager Marco Silva - have signed Barcelona trio Yerry Mina, Lucas Digne and Andre Gomes, £35m forward Richarlison, Brazilian Bernard and Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma.
