Southampton were poor in the first half but for the chances they did have, the man getting on the ball and making things happen was Danny Ings.

He deserves to score. We talked about how hard it can be coming back from injury and it was a great finish.

Leighton Baines throws another cross into the mixer from a set piece as Everton look to reply straight away. But a big Southampton head rises to clear danger.

  6. goal

GOAL - Everton 2-1 Southamptonpublished at 54 mins

    Danny Ings

You have to say, it's sloppy defending that lets Southampton right back in this.

James Ward-Prowse's corner finds Mario Lemina at the near post, the midfielder flicks a header spinning further across goal, and all Danny Ings has to do is turn home, totally unmarked inside the six-yard box. The former Liverpool man scores at Goodison Park - his first goal on his full debut.

    Everton 2-0 Southampton

There always seems to be space for Ricarlison in the Everton attack though. He's having a fine game and once again glides down the left wing, turning a one-two into a dangerous cross that is well claimed by Alex McCarthy down low.

    Everton 2-0 Southampton

Much better from Southampton. Nice passing out from the back finds Ryan Bertrand on the overlap, his cut-back is into Danny Ings' feet, but the striker's low effort inside the box is blocked by Michael Keane. Really important touch.

George: I’m trying not to get carried away by Everton playing well and winning but it’s pretty clear that we’re going to win the league.

So many deep free-kicks for Everton to play with. Any foul is a dangerous position with Gylfi Sigurdsson in this kind of mood. Charlie Austin digs out a headed clearance this time.

With the amount of money players go for in this day and age it can be hard for Richarlison. He has to concentrate, play well and you can see why he was wanted so badly by Everton, he repaying the faith from the manager.
