A thrilling, chaotic first 45 minutes and Arsenal will go in buoyant and disappointed. They have clawed back that 2-0 deficit but have also wasted several glaring opportunities.

But a superb first-half does come to an end, unfortunately.

Arsenal looked hopeless for large parts but score twice in the space of five minutes to level against rivals Chelsea.

One of the best 45 minutes of football we have had the pleasure of viewing.

Jared: Hopeless Sarri. You can't have David Luiz as your organizer on the back... He has never organized any game. How do you leave Hazard on the bench? How?

Belete: If it wasn't for Arsenal poor finishing this game would have been 5-2 by now!

  10. 'A ridiculous half'published at 18:16 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Chelsea 2-2 Arsenal

    John Southall
BBC Radio 5 live football reporter

It has been a ridiculous half. The defending has been non-existent. It has been a fantastic half.

Chelsea paid how much for this goalkeeper? Did someone get the decimal point wrong?

    Chelsea 2-2 Arsenal

Suddenly, Chelsea are the team that look like they have forgotten how to play football.

An identical move to the second goal as Henrikh Mkhitaryan breaks free down the right, cuts a pass back, but Alex Iwobi strikes over on this occasion.

  13. CLOSE!published at 44 mins

    Chelsea 2-2 Arsenal

Arsenal should be ahead, yes really!

This is another bad miss from Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyang.

The former Borussia Dortmund man is given the ball by Alex Iwobi, but scuffs wide from eight yards out.

He was free, he should have rippled the net.

Peter: This game is amazing. Well, not for defenders. Or for the art of defending in general. But very entertaining!

Mark: What a game! All Chelsea, yet Arsenal should be 3-2 ahead. More goals in this one.

    Arsenal

    Unbelievable!!

What a fine Arsenal move, a throwback to when they were good.

Hector Bellerin plays in Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who rolls the ball towards the penalty spot.

In strides Alex Iwobi, who lashes a finish into the net.

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga again gets a hand on it, but this one had too much power.

Arsenal were outplayed for 35 minutes, but score twice in five to level the contest.

PJ: What is going on here? Mkhitaryan blazes the easy chance but absolutely slams in the considerable more difficult chance!

Joe: Courtois would have saved that.

Ash: Kepa didn’t look confident trying to save that shot.

    Henrikh Mkhitaryan

    Arsenal

    Arsenal back in it!

If you are the world's most expensive goalkeeper, you have to be saving these.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan makes up for his earlier miss by drilling a finish from outside the box low into the net.

It's not in the corner, Chelsea's £71m Kepa Arrizabalaga gets a hand to it but cannot keep it out.

    Has to do better.

Am I crazy for thinking that Arsenal should have looked at someone like Tony Pulis to replace Wenger? What is the one thing this team lacks? A backbone. What do Tony Pulis teams always play with? Yep, you guessed it, a backbone.

    Alex P, Sydney

    You are crazy, Alex.
