  1. 'Difficult for England to get back into this'published at 20:36 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    England 1-2 Spain

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Spain didn't disappoint, they have been excellent and to go one down they probably wondered how that happened.

It was a wonderful ball from Luke Shaw for the goal - a lovely weighted pass - but Spain have shown their quality and upped their gears to lead at half-time.

It's going to be really difficult for England to get back into this game. Can they change the formation? Probably not, looking at the players they have got. Perhaps Ruben Loftus-Cheek can come in but, apart from that, I don't see what they've got to change this game.

  2. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    England 1-2 Spain

A successful first 45 minutes for Luis Enrique's side, not so much for Gareth Southgate's men.

  3. 'No width in England squad'published at 20:30 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    England 1-2 Spain

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

I'd like to see Gareth Southgate go to a 4-5-1 formation here but England don't have any width in the side to do that.

43 minutes in and they are still booing Sergio Ramos.

Come on now, end it, getting embarrassing.

Gman: I think this goes to show both teams were playing out of character at the World Cup. Spain were poor, England were goodish. Normal service resumed tonight it seems.

England looking to get back into the game and Luke Shaw puts a cross from the left into the box but it is easily cleared by Dani Carvajal.

Striker Harry Kane was nowhere to be seen.

That Rodrigo goal is e-spana in the works. Its spain-ful to watch now.

    Awful.

David Jarvis: I think this game shows that the world cup flattered England due to the easy route to the semis, this team isn't at the top level of international football.

Brianna Rabbage: For all the goodwill, come up against a decent side and England look clueless as always.

  13. CLOSE!published at 37 mins

    England 1-2 Spain

Need a goal? Better call Saul (Niguez).

    Well nearly.

The Atletico Madrid man has already bagged one this evening and almost drills home a low second, but his shot from the edge of the box is straight at Jordan Pickford.

  14. England struggling at the backpublished at 20:22 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    England 1-2 Spain

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

Wembley has gone very quiet, England have been punished for shocking defending with that second goal and some of the early optimism has evaporated.

England look a threat going forward but they are being picked apart to often at the back.

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 35 mins

    England 1-2 Spain

Unruffled by conceding that goal, England go forward and almost equalise.

Jesse Lingard clips in a lovely ball into the area for Manchester United team-mate Marcus Rashford, whose header towards the top corner is brilliantly kept out by David de Gea's full stretch, diving save.

Bet that's happened a few times in training at Carrington.

  16. 'England shouldn't concede from the set-piece'published at 20:20 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    England 1-2 Spain

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

I have to say, they're a better side than England so far tonight but you can't concede from a set-piece like that. Harry Maguire just drops deeper than everyone else.

They've been poor in possession - if you put England under pressure, they give the ball back very quickly.

  17. goal

GOAL - England 1-2 Spainpublished at 20:17 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Rodrigo (32 mins)

    Disaster for England.

Such a soft goal to give away.

Spain get a free-kick down the left which is drilled in low towards the front post by Thiago Alcantara.

Ex-Bolton man Rodrigo runs across the England backline, sneaks in behind unchallenged and pokes in a finish past Jordan Pickford.

Poor defending that, they were all appealing for offside but he was on by a mile.

  19. 'Nations League a good move'published at 20:16 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    England 1-1 Spain

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

I like this Nations League. From the games I have watched so far it has been very competitive. I don't like friendlies and I think this is a good idea.

    England 1-1 Spain

Spain are being crowded out in the box by a sea of England defenders although Iago Aspas does get a shot away, but Manchester City's John Stones cranes out his neck to head the effort away.
