England get in behind the Spain midfield and Dele Alli has a run on the opposition defence.

I don't think it's any coincidence that England are performing better with a bit of backing from the fans and the media.

    England 1-1 Spain

England caused so many problems from set-pieces at the World Cup and that trait in continuing today.

Skipper Harry Kane beats adversary Sergio Ramos to header, but the weak effort is straight at David de Gea...unlike the one he planted in at Old Trafford a couple of weeks ago.

  4. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 24 mins

England striker Harry Kane down in the under a Dani Carvajal challenge as the ball drops in the box.

It looked clumsy from the Real Madrid man, but the ref waves play on.

There have been little spells where England have put passes together but, apart from that, Spain have dominated the game. England have offered a bit of a threat on the counter but Spain have been good in possession right across the park.

England can be much braver. We haven't seen the likes of John Stones on the ball and they don't know whether to push on.

The Spain defence have a lot of time on the ball and England's wing-backs don't know whether to stick or go - that's a problem.

Much prefer this from Spain, not messing about aimlessly with the ball, instead looking to get it into the opposition box ASAP.

But England midfielder Jesse Lingard is working hard for his side, tracking back to pick out a pass inside his own box.

Not what England need so early in the game.

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson is outpaced by Chelsea's Marcos Alonso, bringing the Spain man down.

England pegged back immediately but what a lovely goal that gave them the lead. Made at Manchester United with brilliant creation from Luke Shaw and a smart finish from Marcus Rashford.

What a response from Spain - plenty for this big Saturday night crowd at Wembley to enjoy already.

Pep Guardiola style of play is definitely influencing England. Playing out from the back seems to be the way despite some of the risks involved. Great to see.

Interesting to see how England respond to this.

Batten down the hatches for 10 minutes, I say. Grab a bit of control back.

Luke Shaw does ever so well for the goal but you've got to say he's at fault for the equaliser, diving in too early.

Spain have played very well, they've been the better side and it shows their quality that they can just go up the other end and score like that.

GOAL - England 1-1 Spainpublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Saul Niguez (13 mins)

    Well, well.

    Spain hit back immediately.

Another lovely move ends with the ball in the back of the net.

This time Thiago Alcantara breaks free of the England backline and pulls the ball back for Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez to sweep in a low finish past Jordan Pickford from eight yards out.

The England goalkeeper may have got a hand on it, but the strike had too much power.

    It's a great goal.

Jordan Henderson breaks it up - they haven't been able to take the ball off Spain but they've kept going.

And that is just a wonderful pass from Luke Shaw to supply Marcus Rashford.

At the moment it's suiting England to hit Spain on the counter - we know Spain are going to dominate the ball and sometimes it's about tactics.

    Marcus Rashford (11 mins)

    Brilliant goal.

England's passing style of play, quick on the counter rips Spain apart.

They work the ball from right back into the centre of the park, where Harry Kane swiftly moves it on towards the galloping Luke Shaw.

The Manchester United man has little support, but plays in a sublime pass in between goalkeeper David de Gea and defender Nacho for Marcus Rashford to sweep home.

    What a start.
