    Everton 0-1 West Ham

Well, Everton must be kicking themselves.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a chance at one end and within seconds West Ham were in front at the other.

    Andriy Yarmolenko (11 mins)

    How about that!

One long ball from West Ham completely takes out the entire Everton defence and Marko Arnautovic slides a pass to his right for Andriy Yarmolenko to smash home from close range.

It's a goal on his first start for the Hammers' summer signing.

    What a ball.

Idriss Gueye shows his passing is better than his shooting by picking out Dominic Calvert-Lewin with a lovely diagonal ball.

The young forward can't quite take it down, otherwise he's have been one-on-one with Lukasz Fabianski. Instead, the West Ham stopper gobbles it up.

    Everton 0-0 West Ham

That's better from West Ham, keeping hold of the ball for a spell before Mark Noble lofts a high pass out of play.

Everton use it quickly and smartly as Jonjoe Kenny links up nicely with Theo Walcott down the right. Great feet from the former Arsenal winger to skip inside and he wins a corner.

The Hammers deal with it after Idrissa Gueye completely miscues his shot.

    Everton 0-0 West Ham

Lucas Digne looks very much in the mould of Leighton Baines. Everton fans will be happy with that.

The hosts look to work it wide to the former Barcelona man twice in quick succession, but Digne is crowded out. He's playing like a left winger at the minute.

  6. 'Everton should be looking to Tosun'published at 16:04 British Summer Time 16 September 2018

    Dion Dublin
Ex-Aston Villa striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I’m hoping Everton will want to put on a show for their fans and start the game in the right way.

I’m also hoping they use Cenk Tosun as much as possible, he stays high up the pitch and he brings others into play.

    Everton 0-0 West Ham

I watched West Ham at Arsenal and thought, despite their defeat, they played some good stuff going forward.

Manuel Pellegrini's side have been pretty direct so far at Goodison, long balls looking for Marko Arnautovic, and it's been easy for Everton to deal with.

    Everton 0-0 West Ham

Mason Holgate is an assured footballer. Comfortable on the ball, always looking for a pass, he's had a decent start to the season since coming into the side.

The youngster gets Everton moving forward early and Theo Walcott wriggles free, but fires into a West Ham defender.

Former West Ham winger Matthew Etherington on BBC Radio 5 Live: "Today is hugely important for West Ham, especially looking ahead to the fixtures they have got coming. Today is a big game. I do like the look of the team, it looks a lot better, more structured and organised.

"Having said that I think the team is having a lot of problems defensively and I would have liked to see a three at the back, they get more protection that way. It's a new partnership in defence and hopefully it is a good one as they are struggling in that area."

I think Marco Silva could be at Everton for a while. They wanted him for some time, he has gone in and settled the ship, he knows how he wants to play, putting the right pegs in right holes.

The Everton fans have got to give him a bit of time, a couple of seasons. He is a very experimental manager. He will turn this club around.

Everton have enjoyed a solid start on the pitch, but off it a potential storm is brewing.

The Premier League has opened an investigation into a claim the Toffees made an illegal approach for Marco Silva when he was Watford manager.

Watford reported their top-flight rivals for an alleged rule breach after the Toffees tried to hire the Portuguese last season.

BBC Sport understands an independent law firm has been tasked with looking into the matter.

However, it is unlikely it will report back to the Premier League before 2019.

Silva will hope both his and his side's attention is focused fully on the task on hand at Goodison this afternoon.

  18. The best stats from Wolves' winpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 16 September 2018

    Wolves 1-0 Burnley

Wolves have won all three of their Premier League meetings with Burnley, against no other side have they recorded a 100% win ratio.

Burnley have never won a Premier League away game against newly promoted opposition (W0 D6 L5), including a 4-2 loss against Fulham this season.

Wolves have lost just one of their last 24 league games at Molineux (W16 D7 L1).

And they recorded more shots against Burnley than they have against any other side in a single match in Premier League history (30 shots).

  19. 'I am very blessed with Hart here'published at 15:48 British Summer Time 16 September 2018

    Burnley

Here's Burnley boss Sean Dyche, speaking to BBC Sport: "We have been down this road before. That is important now so we can realise it can be done."

On goalkeeper Joe Hart: "I think Joe Hart is a top-class keeper. I am very blessed here. It has certainly justified why he is here but he will be wanting more from the team in front of him."

  20. 'West Ham need to be ugly'published at 15:47 British Summer Time 16 September 2018

Everton v West Ham (16:00 BST)

    Dion Dublin
Ex-Aston Villa striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is all about the characters at West Ham. Are they strong enough to pull each other through? At the moment quality-wise they are struggling, they can’t seem to hit the target let alone score goals. They don’t seem to be together when it comes to defending as well.

They have got to become, unfortunately we call it ugly. They have got to be ugly, do the horrible jobs incredibly well and start to be hard to beat. Do something simple, do it well. They’ve got enough quality, if they get the basics right they should be OK.
