"We knew it would be difficult and they would set up well so I thought the boys deserve full credit today. We've got some amazing attacking players and we're learning more each day and we're always finding out how to break teams down."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Chris Hughton: "The second goal was frustrating. They counter attack very fast and very well. It's a typical Manchester City goal but at 1-0 we were always in the game but the second goal killed us.

"You don't want to get beat but it's how you get beat and these are the type of places where you can get beat big. We had a goalkeeper who had to make big saves and defenders who had to block shots, so we did well to survive here.

"We had a good period where we settled down in the second half but I think the second goal really hurt us. We could've stopped that in the middle of the park before they got to our box."

On Brighton's penalty appeal for Fernandinho handball: "We had a penalty given against us last game, Glenn Murray hand ball, I had no problems with that, but here you need as many decisions going for you and I saw the ball hit his hand on the video replay so it's a definite penalty. That could've changed our fortunes."

Southampton

Mark Hughes speaking to Match of the Day: "We came here against a very good Wolves side and more than held our own. It’s no good consoling yourself with good performances if you’re not getting the points. We've made individual mistakes in two one v one situations in wider areas which we need to deal with better.

"We had good moments where we needed a bit more devilment in our play. We need to be more aggressive and make sure we’re getting on the end of things – that’s in both boxes.

"We didn't deserve a defeat today."

Arsenal

Arsenal manager Unai Emery speaking to Match of the Day: "The team suffered in the 90 minutes as it was very competitive but they worked hard.

"I think we improved in the match and it is good for our momentum and continuing to improve. We will look at Petr Cech's injury. He is playing well but Bernd Leno continued the performance for us and it is a good example for the squad. We need every player.

"It is clear also that we are improving in getting more competitive in the difficult moments. Our quality is on the pitch when we need it.

"We will prepare for each match like this. We want to improve and give ourselves opportunities. Hopefully is it the same next time and we continue doing our way."

Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez: "Obviously I am disappointed, we conceded two goals from set-pieces and didn't take our chances.

"The second goal killed us mentally. Leicester were well organised and worked hard and they have some good players.

"When you concede it is always difficult for you. When things are not going in your favour you concede penalties like that.

"We have to manage the squad, we tried to be more offensive but we didn't take our chances and we were exposed in the second half. The team is working hard, you cannot complain about that.

"I have not spoken to Mike Ashley today, but if he is around it is positive. We have to concentrate on things on the pitch.

"I don't know anything about a takeover, I just concentrate on the pitch."

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to Match of the Day: "We were outstanding. Our positional game was fantastic and we didn't concede much in shots and we did it so good.

"Brighton defended so well and I give a lot of credit to the way we attacked today. We are so fast on the counter-attack and it was quite similar last season."

On the quality of Raheem Sterling and his young midfield: "We cannot forget they are still young players and they always need to improve. Raheem is always a guy who wants to score and create chances so we are very happy for him and the team."

"We created clear chances in both halves. It was amazing saves from the goalkeeper. We dominated big parts of the game. We didn't score the big chances and in one chance the other team scored.

"The last games we have had good performances. We have tried to improve that situation to get better results.

"We had more shots on target and more clear chances but we lost. I am very happy with the level of the team and the play. We only need to improve little things to get results.

"All the players are thinking we deserve a better result but it is the past so we need to prepare for Bournemouth and try to do better offensively."

Tottenham Hotspur

"Very good win, very pleased. The attitude was fantastic. It was a tough game against a team desperate to win. They were helped by their unbelievable fans, among the best I have found in England. Which is why we are so pleased to have three more points in the table today.

"I think the game was difficult from the beginning. We knew coming here they were an aggressive team, desperate to win as they haven’t started so well. They have very good players, with the atmosphere and the manager they will bounce back.

"Today after 45 minute made a few changes. We need to assess in the next few days but football is about the squad.Today it was fantastic to see Harry Winks and Victor [Wanyama], playing 45 minutes and giving their best. It is important all the players feel that they are important."

Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez: "Last year we were in the bottom five in January and finished 10th so we are clear what can happen.

"When we saw the fixtures we knew the start of the season could be tough."

Wolves

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo: "I am so happy as my team worked really hard against a tough opponent. Southampton caused us some problems but we stayed in the game and it was a deserved win.

"It is important to be defensively organised and keep a clean sheet. On that, we believe in our identity and our style of play. I expect the best from my team and they work very hard.

"Wolves fans must be happy coming to Molineux and should be proud of their team."

Watford

Watford striker Andre Gray: "I thought we had the better chances. Not being ruthless has let us down again. We have been punished for it.

"We were made to pay. We weren't ruthless at the other end of the pitch and against teams like Arsenal you will be punished.

"We have been playing well and should have got a lot more out of it. The main thing was not to lose the game. It would have been good to get a point but we have to take the positives out of it.

"Everyone knows their jobs and we appear to be gelling really well."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton defender Gaetan Bong, speaking to Premier League Productions: "I think we played well but it is hard to come here and have the ball. We caused them trouble but they have quality players. We were focused to stay in the game but it was tough after they scored the first goal. We have to learn from this loss.

"We have quick players and that's why it is important to stay in the game until it opens up for us. We tried today and it wasn't working but we have to focus on the next game.

"It's a tough place to go, even for the top teams, and that's why we knew today would be hard to take a point or even win."

Southampton

Jannik Vestergaard: "We feel frustrated. I think we had some good phases in the game where we were dominating but in key moments in the game we were not good enough.

"Generally, we controlled the game but maybe it was concentration that cost us.

"We had Adama Traore under control and won challenges against him. I don’t think he was the key – we just didn’t defend well enough for that first goal which killed the rhythm of the game."
