It's back to league business for Hibs and Rangers this weekend, with Steven Gerrard renewing his Merseyside rivalry with Alan Stubbs, now boss of promoted St Mirren.

Hibs travel to Perth to face St Johnstone.

But, first up, Brendan Rodgers' reigning champions, Celtic, travel to Tynecastle to face Craig Levein's rebuilt Hearts in Saturday's early game in the Premiership.

David A Craig: "I thought Hibs were superb tonight, if it wasn't for their goalkeeper and the post, Hibs could have sneaked the game 2-0."

Ian Toghill: "Great result for Rangers. My team (Hibs) chances are in the balance. Played pretty well and had it not been for their goalie, and perhaps a little luck, we would have won. Still got a reasonable chance to go through through."

John Bracken: "Great results for both. We live to fight another day."

Hibs head coach Neil Lennon is hopeful of signing a few more players before the end of the transfer window.

"We definitely want another wide player," he told BBC Scotland. "Thomas Agyepong has come in, maybe another midfield player as well. We've still got a little bit of work to do.

"But we can't skim over tonight and say 'we need this, we need that', it's a long-term process.

"We're looking at the whole season and I'm delighted with what we've seen so far from the players."

A reminder that, should Hibs progress, it looks like their play-off round opponents will be Dinamo Minsk after they surprised Zenit St Petersburg 4-0 in Belarus.

Rangers might have also expected to be facing Russian opponents, but a re-match with Progres Niederkorn is still a possibility for the Ibrox side should they protect their two-goal lead in Slovenia.

Ufa could only beat the side from Luxembourg, who knocked Rangers out last season, 2-1 at home.

Hibs head coach Neil Lennon tells BBC Scotland was reasonably content with the draw.

"It was a good game, I enjoyed it," he said. "I think the only thing missing was us scoring.

"Overall, I've got to be delighted, the tie is still very much alive."

Lennon pointed out that Ross Laidlaw wasn't terribly busy in the absence of injured goalkeeper Adam Bogdan.

"They defended well and tried to take the sting out of the game as often as they could, but I don't remember Ross having to make a save," he added.

"Considering where we are at this stage of the season, going up against a team who are midway through their season, that was a really good performance, so I've got to take a lot of positives from that."

It's advantage Rangers and whatever Steven Gerrard had to say at the break worked wonders for the Glasgow side.

They were second best after Mitja Viler cancelled out Alfredo Morelos' opener.

But James Tavernier restored the lead with a second-half penalty and a controversial Lassana Coulibaly strike gives the Glasgow side a two-goal advantage heading to Slovenia.

Molde are a very good side, they pass the ball well, their movement off the ball is superb.

I think, in the last third, they're missing a bit. I don't think they looked a goal threat inside the box, but that might change at home.

It was a tough game for Hibs, but I'm delighted they have not conceded a goal.

Molde head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expecting a similarly tight game in the return next Thursday and leaves happy with the draw.

"I thought we defended brilliantly," he told BBC Scotland. "We have come here and got a result.

"We didn't test their goalkeeper, but we kept the ball well and frustrated them."

Molde entertain Norwegian league leaders Brann on Sunday and that was in the back of his mind.

"We have a big game on Sunday and I am happy to come away with a draw," he added.

"At home you expect to be favourites after a game like this, but they have caused us a problem here."

What a fantastic result for Rangers. I was worried for them at half-time.

Maribor were the better side by a distance, creating opportunity after opportunity.

There's no doubt there was a reaction in the second half.

Rangers' tempo increased, they created more opportunities, they were playing higher up the pitch and they got their goal.

An enthralling 90 minutes at Ibrox and Rangers secure a commanding victory over Maribor.

It certainly didn't look like it was coming when the Slovenians grabbed a stunning leveller just before half-time to cancel out Alfredo Morelos' opener, but it was swash-buckling stuff in the second half from Steven Gerrard's men.

James Tavernier could have gone earlier today after Rangers received a bid from West Brom, but the Ibrox captain's presence was felt strong to help guide the Ibrox side into a strong position ahead of next Thursday's second leg.

It's all over at Easter Road and the one positive for Hibs head coach Neil Lennon is that they head to Norway without the concession of an away goal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be equally pleased to take Hibs back to their home patch with the tie all square.

Hibs come close to striking a blow in stoppage time as David Gray heads a Stevie Mallan chip into the path of Emerson Hyndman.

The on-loan Bournemouth midfielder has the chance to make it a dream debut, but his shot from 15 yards is pushed away by the goalkeeper and then can only bundle the rebound wide.

Ryan Kent goes off to be replaced with Ross McCrorie, while Alfredo Morelos receives a standing ovation as he goes off and Umar Sadiq comes on.

On loan Leeds United striker Pawel Cibicki comes on for Molde in place of Elrik Hestad as we enter four minutes of stoppage time.

So close for Rangers. Daniel Candeias fizzes in a great ball along the six-yard box. Goalkeeper Jasmin Handanovic dives at the feet of Jamie Murphy rushing in to intercept and takes a whack for his trouble.

Ryan Kent is loitering at the back post, but he can't convert.
