Fabinho plays a clever pass into the run of Mo Salah but it's just about cut out by a stretching Matteo Darmian. Liverpool need to keep the tempo high and keep patient.

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

This average position graphic shows United have been penned in their own half for much of the opening 20 minutes.

Romelu Lukaku (9) is the deepest outfield player, based on his touches so far, while full-back Diogo Dalot (20) is the furthest forward.

Everyone has an opinion about this Manchester United approach, but the only one that counts is Jose Mourinho's, I guess. If he thinks a draw is a good result at Anfield, and he's got two 0-0s in the last two seasons, then it's so far, so good.

Liverpool have had nine shots already.

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Romelu Lukaku recorded just three touches in the opening 15 minutes, all of those in his own half, with two of those in his own box.

Jose Mourinho has the look of a man who cannot quite believe what he is seeing. He is statuesque at the edge of his technical area. From time to time, he points something out, but I am not convinced his players are listening.

Impossible to see United not conceding after seeing this opening 10 minutes. Liverpool just to aggressive.

United being exposed at the back early on. Gonna be a long afternoon if this carries on. I'm hoping that we have some bottle and use our heads today.

Naby Keita and Sadio Mane play a one-two and again it rips the heart out of the visitors. They are all over the shop right in the middle of the pitch. Bizarre.

Jose Mourinho prowls the sidelines as Roberto Firmino fires a shot high and wide from long range.

David Freedman: Liverpool look strong. Just a matter of time before they get the first goal.

SaidMadrid: Liverpool looks sharp and are playing at very high tempo. United struggling at the back look like a team fighting to avoid relegation.

Where is the midfield?! I'm no tactical genius but Sadio Mane runs 45 yards untouched through the centre of the pitch. I'm not sure exactly what this United formation is and more worryingly, I don't think they do either.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp turns to the crowd and cups his ears with his hands to demand more noise from Anfield - and it comes as his side starts to turn the screw. Manchester United looking vulnerable under pressure.

Just seen that semi penalty claim from a few moments ago - Mo Salah got a barge in the back from Victor Lindelof but there wasn't much in it.

Liverpool all over the visitors here - someone has a header hacked off the line by Ashley Young from the corner. Matteo Darmian then hacks one into the Anfield Road end, David de Gea comes out to tell his players to CALM DOWN...

Richard Browne: Have to say Liverpool’s offside line this season has been astounding. VVD organizer supreme.

James: Odds for Jones to get an own goal? I know he may be starting on the bench but I wouldn't put it past him. Although it will go past De Gea...

  18. CLOSE!published at 9 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Waste! Victor Lindelof loses the ball on the edge of his own area and Liverpool have three on three. They should score really, they work it to Sadio Mane but he doesn't get a clear shot away.

It comes to the edge of the aea and Fabinho ends up having a shot saved by David de Gea.

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 7 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Chance! No buses being parked just yet, it's a very open game, especially in midfield. Roberto Firmino has all sorts of space in front of the United back five, he runs to the edge of the area and gets a low drive in, David de Gea has to go full stretch to tip it away with his left hand. A good save, if one you'd expect him to make. From the follow up Mo Salah ends up on the turf, no real penalty shout though.

Marcus Rashford then shoots from range at the other end but it's easy for Alisson.

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

A very 'English' start to this game with both sides threatening from set-pieces. Liverpool win a corner which is headed wide by Roberto Firmino in the middle of a scrum of players around the penalty spot.
