    Liverpool 1-1 Man Utd

Fabinho is having his best night in the red shirt, stepping around a tackle on the edge of the area and teeing up Sadio Mane for another shot on goal from range. Straight at David de Gea on this occasion though.

Wow...football...don't we just love it?! Manchester United have been pathetic but then from their first opportunity...

Alisson should catch that quite comfortably. Some people say he's the best goalkeeper in the world, but to be best you've got to do it week in, week out.

    Jesse Lingard (33 mins)

Well, well, well! You are never out of the game at 1-0 down and out of nothing, Manchester United are level!

It's a goalie error too. From hero to zero in the space of a few days. Romelu Lukaku is played down the left, his first touch in the right goalmouth, he puts over a low cross/shot and Alisson spills it like a bar of soap. A really poor effort, and Jesse Lingard is there to bundle it into the back of the net. Kop End too. He'll enjoy that one...

    Liverpool 1-0 Man Utd

The shot count is 13-1 as we tick past the half hour mark. Eric Bailly concedes a corner with a poor touch to great jeers from the Anfield crowd. The tv cameras pick out Paul Pogba on the bench. Surely he's an improvement?

No game is done at 1-0 though is it? Liverpool need to finish this game off while they are so much on top.

    Liverpool 1-0 Man Utd

    Robbie Savage
Ex-Leicester City & Wales midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

The captain, Ashley Young, can see the run of Sadio Mane. He lets him run across between himself and Victor Lindelof. He's got to go with the run, it's lazy defending.

You've got the armband on, lead your side. Pathetic defending by Manchester United, Liverpool outstanding - it's deserved.

  12. Mane delivers the inevitablepublished at 16:28 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Liverpool have been picking Manchester Uniter apart here and that goal was no surprise. Fabinho's delivery was perfect and Mane showed great expertise with the finish.

This has been a desperate opening spell for Manchester United.

  15. CLOSE!published at 27 mins

    Liverpool 1-0 Man Utd

Dejan Lovren goes close! The free-kick is not dealt with, only headed straight to Roberto Firmino. He puts the ball back in and Lovren lashes over the bar from about six yards out.

Close - and Lovren was clattered off the ball by Eric Bailly too.

  18. goal

GOAL - Liverpool 1-0 Man Utdpublished at 24 mins

    Sadio Mane

Breakthrough! It's a brilliant, brilliant pass from Fabinho. He collects the ball in space from a quick throw in, has time and space and is able to measure a lofted ball into the run of Sadio Mane. Mane runs from right to left, is not tracked by Ashley Young and finds the shooting boots he left at home in midweek. He takes it on the chest and then thrashes through the legs of David de Gea.

Jose Mourinho needs a Plan B.

  19. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Jurgen Klopp pulls his snood up over his head as temperatures presumably plummet inside Anfield. His side have had two thirds of the play so far and have had two shots on target but no breakthrough yet. Ashley Young defends well to cut out a Mo Salah cross.
