Mourinho or no Mourinho, this was never going to be one of the games that Cardiff were looking to win.

But I said about the importance of their goal difference. You've got to keep your discipline. Don't concede five.

Sol Bamba wins the ball but then dribbles, dribbles and dribbles... till he loses the ball.

Matt: ...And that makes it PERFECT

Si: Can I say it? Ole, Ole Ole Ole, Ole... One for each United goal.

Sho: No striker on the pitch and we can still score!

Lamide: ATTENTION! ATTENTION!! ATTENTION!!! Manchester United have scored five goals in a Premier League game and it isn't under Fergie

It is 'only' Cardiff. But David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho played teams who were relegation candidates as well.

None of them managed a team that scored five in a Premier League game.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed it in one game.

Smiles and hugs all round in the away camp. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer marches onto the pitch to congratulate his players, leading them to the away end where they are given a rapturous reception.

Genuine warmth which we didn't see very often in Mourinho's reign. I can't remember the last time I saw Paul Pogba beaming while wearing a red shirt.

The first time Manchester United have scored five since Fergie's final game in May 2013...

Jesse Lingard has not stopped running today and caps a fine performance with his second of the evening.

The England international runs in behind the Cardiff defence to pick up Paul Pogba's pass, before coolly rounding Neil Etheridge and slotting in.

Cardiff corner... can they salvage some more pride with a second goal? Not this time. The corner is gathered by David de Gea, who steadies himself to stop his momentum taking him over the line. And then he sets up a United attack...

Anthony Martial is given a rousing reception as he wanders off. The man of the match by some way I'd suggest.

Nemanja Matic has also earned his ovation, the pair replaced by Marouane Fellaini and Andreas Pereira.

Credit to the Cardiff fans too. They're still giving the United fans some stick.

"Just like Cardiff, your city is blue!" they sing.

It's about the small wins in the stands when your team is losing.

    Cardiff 1-4 Man Utd

The final roll of the tactical dice from Neil Warnock. Bearded midfielder Aron Gunnarsson goes off and Joe Ralls is sent on in his place.

Can't fault Cardiff's endeavour. But the quality isn't there I'm afraid. They are going to stay fourth bottom.

Kenneth Zohore has caused United's back four some problems because of his work rate. We've been waiting for this from him all season.

But you're turning up in December. The season kicked off in August!

KaKa: Would you believe it, Pogba is enjoying his game

Adtiya: Clearly, the creative players, of which Man Utd have quite a few, have been told to express themselves and they are enjoying themselves

Richard: Pogba looking like he can be bothered to play well at last. Nothing to do with the formation or players, same as under Mourinho. Not long ago he couldn't pass 10 yards and lost the ball all when he was crowded out. Now he's bullying & creating. It's attitude.

And that's Marcus Rashford's final contribution. The young England striker has been excellent and is given a rest by new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Summer signing Fred is given the chance to shine.

  19. YELLOW CARDpublished at 79 mins

    Cardiff 1-4 Man Utd

Cynical. Marcus Rashford looks to stretch his legs again with plenty of grass in front of him in the Cardiff half, only to be stopped in his tracks by Greg Cunningham. Yellow.

    Cardiff 1-4 Man Utd

The game has just hit a flat spot.

However, United assistant Mike Phelan has just been urging the visiting players to inject a bit more impetus into their play.

United's fitness levels have been questioned recently.

Will be interesting to see what the response is.
